Cowes-Torquay-Cowes powerboat race 23 August 2008 - can you help please?

The Cowes-Torquay-Cowes is a major offshore challenge, first run in 1961 it's the most famous endurance race in powerboating.

Despite recent problems with funding it is back on for this year, but will be running as a grassroots event on a bare-bones budget. It looks like there's a good lineup of race boats set for the challenge, with the likes of Fabio Buzzi looking to make up for his Round Britain debacle!

The organisers desperately need more safety boats to help marshall the event on the day. Can you help?

I'll post more info here as soon as I can, but if you think you might be interested - or have any questions - please send me a PM or reply here so we can start to get a feel for numbers.

Thanks!

John

I'd be interested in helping out with this. Could provide two boats if needed.

Hello John,
Could you flesh out a bit more what is required. Is it just for the start of the race, or for the finish as well, and when would that be?

Nick.

It's not very clear to be honest.

The organisers have decided that there will be no official safety cover, as the race is being treated as a "marathon" event, but they still need some support boats. There's a bit of discussion on Boatmad here, and http://boatmad.com/forum/showthread.php?t=11508.

The support fleet is being organised by Gary Manchester orcchairman@aol.com so it might be worth dropping him a line.
