Of course I am not tarring them all with the same brush(or feathering)!!! I know plenty of great Yanks. It just annoys me so much that these ignorant gits can give money to people who think nothing of killing innocent kids. Roughly the same number of people were killed in New York on Sept 11th as were killed by the Irish terrorists - just not in one go.

There is NO justification for killing even 1 innocent person - how can people give money to it?

Pompous git. Stick to discussing RIBs, after all you are an "ex-pat rib pundit"

Unless you originate from the UK. Then you feel as though your not wanted.

...I think there is nothing I can teach you about Pomposity. Indeed you are a Jedi of pomposity.........

You really are the most miserable chap aren't you? I think I even prefer Codders fulminations over your 'contributions' as there is at least, a certain entertainment value to be had. I'm afraid Ribeye ownership must be taking its toll. Perhaps you should buy a Scorp and rediscover your sense of humour?

In the meantime I'll continue to pundit on anything I see fit. But thanks for your concern.

Meanwhile back on topic (ish)

In a Codprawnesque manner I must add to general fulmination about those dammed americans and their security requirements for us jolly old Brits to enter to country. (Pompous enough for you yet Tim?). The next stage of security implementation is that now when Johnny Canuck (plus the rest of us who live in the Great White North) travels on a plane over the US, like say to Mexico for some winter sun, the airline will have to provide full passenger data - name, passport number, etc etc to the US authorities just as if you were flying to the US of A itself. Much uproar about this in Canada - the airlines say it will cost them more and of course from a civil liberties perspective no-one is happy. Damn Americans!!! Presumably if ones name appears on the no fly list or some other CIA/NSA database you'll not be able to fly. Or perhaps they'll force the plane down in the US. Or just shoot it down. Who knows!!!!!

You don't get it do you. Your bristling indignation obviously distracted you. The remark about your pomposity was in relation to your rather feeble insult of another poster.

New York (Newark) wasn't a problem the last time I was there. Usual queueing, but I was through in about 10 minutes, after a photo and finger print scan.

I really don't see what all the fuss is about, surely no one can complain about additional security if it makes travelling even a little safer.

As for Codprawns claim that USA immigration officials are officious, I've never found that, maybe he just gives off the wrong vibes. I've always found them to be efficient, and have even known them to share a laugh. Just treat them how you'd like to be treated yourself.

I haven't been to the USA for some time now - I am only repeating what I have been told by many people I know who travel there a lot. My Aunt and Uncle hav a house in Florida so are always over there.

To be fair Canada is just as bad. My ex girlfriend hated the treatment she had. Even removing her shoes 3 times in the space of an hour. Considering she was blonde and about 5' 2" anyone less like a terrorist is hard to imagine. Then again it wouldn't be PC to pick on the likely suspects would it!!!

Yeah...what the fat man says.. I found the guys at JFK to have a fine sense of humour... even offering to detain my wife indefinitely when the electronic scanner couldn't read her fingerprints .. . Less pleasing is the habit of HM Immigration service putting on only a couple of staff at UK airports when they must know how many large capacity planes are coming in from the Far East/Asia etc... with loads of non-EU nationals on board..

One poor woman was locked up for 26 hours in a cell because her fingerprints came back as belonging to an Arab male terrorist. The fact she was neither male nor Arab didn't seem to matter..........

Do you ever worry codders that if you did fly to the US, the yanks would pick your prescence up on radar, as you have a very wide footprint, and despatch some F14's on a search and destroy mission ?

F14s??? They have been retired now - do you realise all the "modern" US jets were around in the days of Nam......

Anyway I would just come in on the 4th July with a baseball cap!!!

The worst immigration to date has to be the British Virgin Islands !

To be fair most immigration Officers in most countries are officious, they must all go to the same immigration college worldwide. Except for the bloody UK who welcome every bugger with open arms, big kiss and a nice cup of hot tea to make up for the nasty, bumpy little flight over !!!
Never had any grief - been to Chicago, LA and Miami twice!

Do you have a pub Landlord? I'm just down the road in Salcombe!
