Stats have change since my day - in 1500 jumps I had 4 cut aways and a rather nasty incident where the main and reserve deployed at the same time.
It's not your equipment failing that will kill you it's how you fly it, or other people flying into you - canopies are so small and fast that if some one flies into you close to the ground that's it.
