Our Celtic cousins won't be too happy with this!

Ive been saying it for years (and on this forum) the Japs can make a whisky in 10 years that tastes the same or better than a lot of ours do after 30 ... their ability is vast. Kinda reminds me of the way french red wine went, after they got too pretentious then everyone went 'new world'

Scotland still makes some highly unique malts though such as can be found on the west coast due to the environment, and the japs will take a while yet to emulate that, but Scotlands main problem is that it produces a shed load of uninteresting and bland malts, which do it no favours. I buy Yamazaki from time to time, and I have to say, on its down side , from the cheaper ones I find it has a kind of synthetic taste, which I dont find in any other Malt, but if you like a traditional christmas pudding sweetness in your malt, its well worth a visit, and ive always enjoyed the stuff, it is, very good

That depends where you start from!

I enjoyed a Japanese dram at the weekend, sufficiently so I can't recall it's name it was somewhat softer on the pallette than many and required no water. It was followed by that foul stuff Jambo likes to quaff!

I thoroughly agree its burnt plastics and rubber on the nose for me .. but in his defence, I rate the version they make called 'Prophecy' VERY highly .. its an excellent, and massively rich (all beit expensive) dram theres still the undercurrent of base spirit, but it is hidden by the smoke, peat and spice balance like no other ... damn I wish I had one in my hand right now
