I have just got one of these-

http://www.argos.co.uk/static/Produc...2BFreeview.htm

Goodmans 80Gb PVR with freeview.
Doddle to use and will record around 40 hours.
Point and click timer and a real words telling you what you have recorded. No more searching through loads of tapes to find what you want etc.
Added bonus of being able to pause/rewind "live TV"

Does the biz for £120.

Andy, the one we have has Parental Controls - so you could set this up to prevent the missus & kids activating the unit.

Andy
It has a hard drive so you can erase what you want. Its just 10 x 4hr VHS tapes in 1 box with an index of what you have recorded.
Its a freeview recorder so the quality is better than you had with the VCR.
Instant access to all recordings, so no more searching through a load of un-named tapes/DVDs. How often do you want to keep a recording for ever?
You can pasword protect recordings, so the missus can not erase important things like Top Gear and the kids cannot watch any "late night" programs.
Another thing I like, is you can watch part of a program and when you want to watch the rest you press the red button and carry on from where you stopped.
Another bonus is a 2 min skip to save fast forwarding through the ads (even if they are some of the best TV around at the moment ).

Ooh, I like those Bogi . Who want's to look at the road anyway. Just like having the RIB on the back, I look into the Mirror all the way to the slipway.

All I need is the kitchen sink .

Might have a spare one of those soon.

Took the plung on the DVD recorder front today after the DVD player stopped working.

For those interested it was a LITEON 5045 with a 160Gig Hardrive and all media compatible recorder. Just have to figure out how to use the thing now .

Andy, glad you chose the Liteon unit. All you need now is a doctrate in Advanced Nuclear Physics to get it to work.

Well, installation was extremly straight forward and suprislingly easy. Look like it's thumbs up for Liteon and very fortunatly got it really cheap from a mainline superstore (Currys ).
