website help - mouseover text appear

I know there are a few people on here who know a load about writing websites so thought I might give this a shot...

I'm currently re-writing my website and am trying to make some text appear in a table cell of my choice when the mouse is hovered over an image. I would like to do this without Java Script if possible (i think it is).

I have 3 thumbnails is a row (in a table) and want text to appear in a separate table cell below the thumbnail table when the mouse is hovered over each thumbnail. I need different text to appear for each thumbnail.

I've also been trying to make images go from opaque to full colour with mouse over. I have found Java script to do this, but for some reason it doesn't work in Firefox, but does in IE...usually its the other way around!

Any ideas anyone?

Thanks.

It can also be done without using Javascript - I'll have a bash at it while I'm at work today (if I get time!)
