Now this has all the hallmarks of a classic internet hoax, but I couldn't find any reference to it so I emailed the London Ambulance Service:

======================================
John

Thanks for your message - we are very aware of this e-mail!

It certainly didn't originate from us but was forwarded in good faith by
a member of staff to people he knew and has seemingly been widely
circulated in the last few days.

We have spoken to the Metropolitan Police and they know nothing about it
so our best advice is to ignore it.

Apologies for any confusion or concern it may have caused.

Regards
Alex Bass
LAS Press Office
======================================

So no need to panic

And now I've found the reference on snopes. It's been around for years!

John

LAS do like a good wind up. They used to have a spoof website which I think the 'management' has now banned.

This was circulating as far away as Barbados and was forwarded to me by a friend who sent a second email telling me to disregard, after having a chat with the police commissioner who said it was false. Word sure travels fast.

If we all believed everything on the net, we'd be driving 10m ribs doing 100mph with a 40hp diesel outboard running on chip fat and flushing the engine with toluene after each use.
