Any one know what hours of the day builders can work/make noise? Week days 8-6 and sat 8-1 I thought? Must be a ribnobber building expert on here....

I think you'll find 8am-6pm and 8am-1pm is based on the times the boss can keep them there and isn't legally binding.

Surely those council bods must have made up some rule around working in a residential area?

It's not like you'd be allowed to run a gang of men with grinders at 3am.

Or would it just be governed by noise limits?

We had scaffolders at 7.15 throwing metal tubes about. Was up with kids anyway but wife and neighbours not happy.

Each local authority has powers under the Control of Pollution Act, 1974 to set its limits. Most seem to suggest the 8-6 M-F and 8-1 Sa limits. That seems a little old fashioned to me - I can't believe Sat PM and Sun is avoided in reality.

HP: Before you upset anyone do you really want an angry neighbour knocking on your door because you are putting up a shelf at 7.15pm on a weeknight or at 11am on Sunday? In my experience these sort of arguments with neighbours have a habit of becoming petty very quickly.

Its them annoying terwats with there loud bellend exhausts randomly driving round early hours that are the nuisance, I live near a busy port surrounded by refineries with an Army training base nearby, with regular HEAVY artillary night training, the refinery stacks can roar 100ft+ flames somtimes when there letting off excess pressure, and then there's the multiple array of VERY load warning sirens, with regular drill practice. Then the fog horns thoughout the Haven, all of these noises can be heard for miles around, with generally no complaints by local residents who've become accustomed to all these night sounds. Infact its quite acoustically soothing to fall asleep to the beat of an old fishing boat arriving or departing the Harbour.
Until one of the bellend exhaust brigade drive by.

during the week we are allowed to make noise between 8am and 6pm, sat start at 9am, sun start at 10, not sure about finish times at weekend.

just going back to your original complaint, you said it was scaffolders - scaffolders are not builders!
