Police on motorbikes: police force sells motorbikes because they are too dangerous
The decision to sell the bikes was made in order to 'maximise officer safety' Photo: REUTERS

The police force decided to sell off all the Honda and BMW bikes after deciding that officers using them were "particularly vulnerable to collision".

The force has been criticised for losing a valuable resource but senior officers have insisted that the move will "maximise officer safety".

Brilliant - given the number of Police officers killed in car crashes maybe they will take their patrol cars off them as well...............

Great idea. Replace them with pedal powered tricycles. I assume that "in breeding" is the cause of all British stupidity.

quite obvious really no cops on the road in vehicles so they cant crash into all the speed cameras!!!!!

and of course no embarrassing stories of cops being caught by speed cameras either

My local police use quad bikes to patrol both the streets, beach and one of the largest area of sand dunes in Europe. Quad bikes IMO are allot more dangerous than they're 2 wheeled brothers. But it would be un thinkable to stop them using them! What would they use instead, Donkey's?

The funniest bit is that they have sold some of them . . . to another force!

If you want a cheap hi-spec bike worth keeping an eye on northern motor auctions though.
