"What?"

"Your lobsters. Call them back."

"What lobsters?"

I thought it is open season on lobster pots, I had my best season ever this year, got two lobsters out of my pot before it got stolen. Usually they are gone the next day when I go back to my pot. I got four lifts out of this one before it was nicked.

dont give in, the buzz you get when you finally catch one is worth all the effort, dont know if they are still about down there but most of the potters up here have brought their pots in for the season now

Well between you and me ... < *looks left* *looks right* > half the reason your pot probably got nobbled was because it had a ton of markings on it asking for it

... (sadly there are unscroupulous individuals everywhere these days) maybe not a popular view on here.. because I know why honest boaters want them marked .. but some of these 'career' fishing 'gentlemen' take great umbridge at the slightest infringement on their livelihoods

.. like one lobsters gonna break the bank ?

Now that you have had the benefit of the community advice here .. probs best to make up your own mind on what you do next ... hopefully your next post will be with a trophy

Presumably you need to find somewhere a bit quieter to leave it (where the potters are less likely to find it). Plus I assume you marked its position on a GPS. So you could share the pos with others to let them watch over it / search for it when it goes astray.

Any value to puting a notice on it that says it has a position tracker fitted? Or can a location be found that has a web cam looking over it...

Also any value to "making friends" with the local potting community - where would they want you to leave a pot? Make it clear its a bit of fun not for money, once a month for a couple of days, you know not to take females with eggs etc. Make them part of the project :;-):

Anyone ever caught a Hag fish in a pot ,
The prehistoric eel type that can turn a bucket of water into a thick sticky wall paper type paste within a couple of mins some of it corrosive .

If you ever get one in a pot or creel , crabs & lobby's won't go near the pot again even if you do eventually get goo off they seem to sense the Hag fish and keep well away ,
I know one local fisherman that towed his contaminated pot behind his boat for a few weeks to try get rid of scent and goo but it never caught another crab or lobby .

If the OP goes back to one of my earlier posts (the both quotes above are of relevance) he may have noticed that our preferred catch uses a fair range, right up to dead low water line ... commercial boats cannot access this type of area, often... ...moving on

... Some lay strings of blind pots in deeper water just to give the impression that the area is fished , just to keep others out too

Even though we have plenty of lobsters in our sea, over here in Canada it is impossible to fish for Lobster, totally and absolutely illegal.

If you get caught fishing for those, scuba diving or lobster pots, the local fishermen will take care of you and once they are done they'll call the fisheries police and EVERYTHING will be seized (your car-boat-equipment-etc...) + a very large fine. I heard they even have the right to rape you on the hood of your car if they catch you...

I would love to fish lobster, must be a thrill, but it's unthinkable here. The only way is to embark with a licensed fisherman and watch.

Local knowledge is everything .. know your depth, adjust your rope, know your tides .. theres lots of ways

I use old cork floats on sinking rope btw .. which arent set in any through routes before anyone moans
