Superstision

Hey Guys,

Just thought this would be an interesting one. Everyone knows it's bad luck to change a boats name but what other marine superstisions does everyone know??

I'll start it off, apparently it's bad luck to go to sea if you see a holy man on the way to the boat.

Meeting a girl/woman with red hair on the way to the launch was always considered very bad luck here. Given the high incidence of said qualities locally, it sounds like a damn fine excuse not to get a days work done.....

Green anything was another one.

Superstitions

Many of them! Not carrying a white handled knife and a box of Swan Vestus matches because of the white swan.

If I have a bit of green mold round the back of the deck where the water collects will I be OK ?

Not strictly a boating superstition, but bananas are supposed to be bad luck for fishing.
