Stop eating Tuna

http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/sci/tech/8098393.stm

Many people aren't aware of the dangers facing Tuna stocks. The Blufin is most at risk - the yellow fin is also under threat. The most common eaten in the UK is the skipjack which isn't really under threat but the fishing methods catch blufin as well.

These magnificent fish should be given a chance to recover.

No doubt that commercial ocean fishing needs to be better regulated so that stocks of fish such as tuna are not depleted. One interesting line I noticed in the article was:

"There are fears that the creatures, known as the "cheetahs of the ocean", could be driven to extinction by our growing appetite for sushi and omega-3 oils."

Seals are a fantastic source of omega-3 oils, but I suppose that the EUssholes would rather see tuna go extinct than people get their omega-3 fixes from excessive seal populations.

I suspect that's because tuna don't look cuddly and selling pre-packed seal meat wouldn't appeal to hose who think seals are cuddly...
