Being a tight, hard up, working class git!

Can I just drive up to the beach and throw a few shovel loads of largish stones in the back? I really don't need much and don't want to spend £5 a bag for cobbles

I don't believe you can, a neighbour near us paints beach stones, her and her husband went to the beach and selected quite a few large stones to paint. She was spotted by the council, who followed her all the way home, waited for her to unload the car, then knocked on their door and told them to take the stones back to the beach.

So technically, if I remove them from the beach and put them in the boot of my car, I'm removing them from the beach and they can't be returned for environmental reasons....Right

But it's not theft, as I haven't removed them from the scene of crime.

But, if I then drive off I'll get done for theft of stones from the beach....Yes!

It is theft. If the council is the owner (Not too sure on that point). But if you've got a complainant and your intentions are to remove the stones then you are treating them as your own. Not actually removing the stones is irrelevant in this case if your intentions are actually to do so. Just waiting till you drive off is easier for the prosecution to prove your intent.

Go to Wickes. Sods Law says seeing as you are a decent law abiding person you will get caught the only time you commit a felony.

As long as you have an owner then you can get a complainant which you need for a charge of Theft.

If memory serves, they filled the bilge of the Victory with stones and shingle. It not only supplied ballast but was also used to stop supplies from moving around inside.

The local aggregates places (the sort of place a builder gets his stuff from) is only open during the week and I can't get down there. What a bloody rip off!!

That's what you get when "Ground force" type programs are shown on TV

Strange they were open this morning so a called in and ordered 5 tonnes of 40mm for you £120 incl delivery

. Delivery arranged for 6am Monday morning, don't leave the car on the drive. I told him not to worry about the new concrete as the pebbles will press in and look very nice

Just do them one at time....

What about a water tank under the bow and fill it when needed. You could fit fresh water shower ( for cleaning the fish that you catch!!!!)

It is illegal here to take anything such as stones and sand from our beaches.

In any event there are plenty or quarries who will not begrudge you a few bags of shingle. The council dumps loads of this in lay byes over here for road building, I will send you some.....

Actually I don't think it is illegal to remove stones from a beach - unless it's the Chesil Beach that is which has a specific law relating to it.
