Speeding (Again)

Yes, one of those sneaky little vans photographed me allegedly speeding. Does anyone know what the maximum time allowed before an NIP is issued. I was snapped 4 months ago. Seems a long time. From what I can see on the UK.GOV site you should receive the NIP within 14 days. Anyone got any better info?

My understanding is the same, if you don't hear anything by 14 days then you can stop worrying

14 days is right for small speeding offences. Up to 6 months for more serious issues

14 days only applies to private cars registered in your name. If it's a company car, lease, hire etc, the rules are different. Pepipoo is a good resource. Chances are, they will still chase you & send all the threatening letters warning of dire consequences if you dont cough up. Notwithstanding the time delay, you must still fill in & return the NIP, as not doing so is an additional offence. You can of course tell them that you geniunely can't remember who was driving as it is so long ago, that's assuming that there is more than 1 driver on the insurance. You might still end up in court, but you will most likely win. It's the size of your cojones that decide than one.

Good luck

Mine came after about a week, I wouldn't worry after 4 months unless its not registered to you.

The NIP must be served within 14 days. This means that it must be sent to arrive within the 14 day period. Case law is Gidden V Chief Constable of Humberside Police - see link below.
Will be served on the registered keeper of the vehicle so if,as PD says, the vehicle is registered to someone other than you the NIP will be good if served within the time.
Usually comes with a S172 requiring the keeper to give details of the driver at the time. Failure to provide is an offence.
You might find this of interest: Section 172 Road Traffic Act | Notice Of Intended Prosecution

I would not trust that site as I entered my reg number and it correct displayed details of my vehicle and stated I was caught on 28.1 in Darlington. I have NEVER been to Darlington, is 100's of miles from me

You got caught. Click on the 'photo evidence'. The rest of the details are freely available.
