So Friday pm, whilst sorting a customers' trailer (likely from thie wonderful forum!) I managed to put a grinder into one of my fingers...

Hmmm... do the sums:

Friday pm + negligible wound to unimportnat apendage + visit to AE = wasted hours and life in a 'waiting room', waiting for some poor, overworked nurse to clean my finger and stick some stitches in it.

Solution: put another glove on the top of the one with bleeding digit, to stop more blood coming out and more rubbish getting in (grinders have a terrible tendency to put in as much metal as flesh they take out), then sew it up on arrival home.

Job's a good 'un! Marks out of ten please, for sewing skills!

PS. It's surprising how tough human skin is, when you're trying to sew it, I had to use a thimble lol

Try Superglue, sterile wad and elecrical tape. Works a treat.

hmmmm ...... I'm not so sure, I didn't have that many stitches following my bowel cancer op last year, I think you need to try superglue, doesn't leave big scars, but there again I'm a wimp

Tidy work there TG but maybe carrying some steri strips might be a bit more appropriate.

tbh, I think my finger had been savaged enough already that it didn't really hurt to sew it up. Rambo? More Mr.Magoo more like! Unfortunately, the first stitch (one on the left), tore through, as I pulled it too tight, hence the other two being a bit neater - see, learning on the job!

I think you're all right - I may have to put some super glue and steri-strips on the Landy. Although, I did try the super glue thing once, but ended up sticking the finger holding it together to the actual cut. So it tore open again when pulled the finger off. Idiot. Also, this one was a bit wide and deep, as grinders (even with a 2mm blade) tend to remove anything in their way, rather than leave a nice neat cut!

TG, go to hospital.

Having walked into a trailerboard hanger a few weeks ago and got all the associated crap into the injury (it broke the skin) I'm still having issues with the ensuing infection that followed because I didn't go to the doctors.

Don't chance it.

I'd heard that too Biff, but always presumed it was a bit of an urban myth. I always thought it was plastic compound derivitive that someone suddenly had a brainwave about. Interesting to know, cheers.

Normal superglue burns the skin,

medical superglue is a different formula to prevent this.

I been told similar to veterinary super glue

TG: ask at the chemist for plastic skin, comes in a bottle and you paint it on, stings a bit. very much like the medical superglue by the sound of it.

a bottle of that , tcp/ iodine spray , steri strips live in my van glovebox for such occasions as you describe, arnica cream and tablets help with the swelling if used fairly quickly.

any luck finding that odd 4" hub yet ?.

A vet told me they don't bother pay for sterile super glue ("derma-bond" is one of the brand names)...they just use super glue from the hardware store.
