Just for general information - you do not need to be a member of the RYA to instruct RYA courses.

Be interesting to know what the overall funding of the rya is compared to say the rnli?

Google must have the answer but I'm only using my phone so can't take the frustration of trying to find out.

No worries, I'm sure we can have a reasoned discussion without resorting to handbags
As a Ribster, I haven't had any specific help per se. I sought advice from the cruising section early on in my forays into France, having been stopped several times by the French authorities. The RYA advised me of my rights & obligations as a British registered vessel etc. Having seen what the continentals have to comply with wrg to registration, licensing, where they can/can't go (most of our RIBs would only be allowed 5 miles offshore in France) I feel that the RYA is the only organisation that stands between us & the Government. Especially if the Government thought they could make a quick buck out of us. Considering the current discussions regarding Kill-cords & compulsory registration etc, we need a voice & the RYA is all we've got, as imperfect as it is.

Go easy on that stuff, I got very very pissed on Remy Martin about 25 years ago, took me a couple of days to sober up, I've not touched brandy since. Single malt! that's another matter

True but then you need to pay a Instructor fee to them every year so may just as well join.
