Rik Mayall

Don't often post about this sort of thing but incredibly sad to see him depart so early. Watched all his stuff and like many of us I guess grew up with him (or not as it might be given his slapstick brand of humour ). Pretty much everything he touched was gold but I can watch Bottom over and over and over.

BBC News - Rik Mayall, star of The Young Ones, dies aged 56.

Very sad. Wondering whether his death is connected to the quad accident in any way.

He's not the only celeb that has come a cropper on a quad

Grew up watching the young ones, thought they were great when I were a kid

A very funny bloke

Very briefly met him on a street in London years ago. I asked very politey if i could have his autograph, which duly made its way into a frame in my cabinet with George Best, Patrick Stewart and Victoria Wood.

I never really "got" him.

Still such a shame he's no longer with us.

For me, classic comedy

As Lord Flashheart in Blackadder II

“Captain Darling? Last person I called darling was pregnant 20 seconds later.”

As Squadron Leader Lord Flashheart in Blackadder Goes Forth (1989)

Flashheart: “All right men, let's do-oo-oo it! The first thing to remember is: always treat your kite [taps chalkboard picture of a biplane] like you treat your woman [whips the air with his cane].”

Lieutenant George (Hugh Laurie): “How, how do you mean, Sir? Do you mean, do you mean take her home at weekends to meet your mother?”

Lord Flashheart: “No, I mean get inside her five times a day and take her to heaven and back.”

Captain Blackadder (Rowan Atkinson): “I'm beginning to see why the suffragette movement want the vote.”

Lord Flashheart: “Hey! Any girl who wants to chain herself to my railings and suffer a jet movement gets my vote!”

Very sad indeed.

Check UK Gold (ch 110) tonight at 10.40 for "'s Out", possibly the best Bottom episode of all when they take a camping trip on the common.

Followed by the best Young Ones episode - Bambi!
