Ribsters Secret Santa

Just an idea but ....... see what you think.....

Ribsters Secret Santa

Here’s how it works:

You send me a private message that includes:

Your name
Your address
Where you would be willing to ship a gift be you can choose anywhere or one or two countries or whatever. There are plenty of Ribsters around, so if you don’t want to send something over any oceans that’s fine.
Then, buy a gift, the price ought to be £8 - £12 or so. If you want to wait to see who you get then that’s fine but the closer to December the worse the shipping time becomes.
On Nov 27 or so, I’ll assign you someone to gift and send you their address.
As soon as you get your assigned Ribster, send them a gift, the gift should arrive by Dec 15th.
If for some reason something goes wrong let me know. Immediately, maybe sooner.

Rules:

1. Gifts ought to cost around £8.00 - £12.00. Price is before shipping.
2. The gifts ought to arrive by Dec 15. If there is a problem with this, let me know.
2a. If you can get a shipping number, that’s cool. You don’t have to but it will make trouble more avoidable. Also, you don’t have to but when you get your package, it’d be nice of you to note it here so your Ribster knows that everything arrived.
3. If for some reason the gift won’t arrive or something goes wrong. Contact me immediately.
4. You must have been a member of Ribnet before 6th November 2009
5. Keep it clean and legal, no shipping booze to kids, guns to Britain, lock picks to Canada or midget-ribster porn to anyone.
6. Contact me if something goes wrong. Again, the sooner I hear from someone the sooner I can fix things.
7. There’s precious little anyone can do to you if you don’t send a gift. But we’re Ribsters and above that kind of thing.

Thoughts:

You might want to send your real name along unless you want a package showing up for some chap named Mr Ten-Inch.
You may want to post a quick comment on what you want but you have no promises as to what you’ll get. You may also want to post about what you have!!
Also, the gifts don’t have to have anything to do with RIB''s and Ribbing, I understand many people love tea and Doctor Who, though you might want to look into things your Ribster likes.

Let me know what you think - I've organised these before and they do work well

Jean

I guess a SR6 with a white hull, twin 90's & on a double axle trailer would be a bit excessive to wish for then?

For the purposes of the sea rider lot can this be £8 - £12 of duck tape or shuttering ply?

This is a great plan!

I'll pass though. I've dispatched small parcels to a few lads on here over the year but I think they didn't get them...

... seeing as they're still posting

Or you could sponsor a sheepdog, give him some training at running in circles, hang him from a long rope under a helicopter over a field (heres where the training element comes in), hey presto the field is clear of sheep & you have..................a Welsh airport.

Sounds like a good idea to me (the original one, not the sheepdog one :-) )... it can't be worse than the Secret Santa I have to do at work anyway. I've got the new boss, who's been recently transferred from a closed branch, and the only vaguely interesting thing about him is he's a bit of a health nut, so I can't even get him chocolates !

You lot could be more fun, but seriously no one send me gaffa tape cos I do already have loads of it. Orange paint could be useful. I would say so would a sheepdog but I still haven't got a good way to keep him entertained while I'm at work or I'd have already signed up to get one from a rescue.

What about a Ribster Christmas knitting competition we could all knit wooly hats and mits for each other wouldn't it be a hoot of a Christmas morning for us all to go out on our boats dressed in our own ribster knitted attire

We did a Secret Santa at the Rib.net Solent Christmas dinner for the last few years and it worked very well.

Unfortunately I'm not organizing a dinner this year for various reasons.

Last year turned into a bit of a headache when the Restaurant went into administration a few days beforehand, and I had people from all over the country and abroad descending on Gosport to eat.
Plus a lot of the annual trophies hand made by yours truly and others went to people the year before who have now stopped contributing to the forum, and didn’t answer PMs to return them.
It was a good idea for the 4 years we did it, with over 40 people attending each year, but I think it’s run it’s course now for a while.
I don’t mind organising it, so will be happy re-instate it next year if there is enough interest.
