Raspberry Pi
Has anyone got/seen one of these? Apparently there are used to teach children programming like we used to do as kids with that big thick book that took days to type in and at the end of it you could play a game. but if you pressed the break button you would loose the lot!!!
Anyway, this Raspberry Pi thing is a mini computer that you can program and get it to operate almost anything electronic!
I was also thinking how it could be used on a rib?
Apparently what you can do with this £20 bit of kit is endless...
Thinking about getting one for my boy for Christmas

I use it for 2 main things:
- Wake on LAN for my desktop so I can access it remotely (since my router blocks WOL packets)
- VPN so I can still access UK sites when I'm out of the country
Would like to do more with it, but I've been working abroad for most of the time since I got it. Back in the UK next year, so let's see what I get up to with the Pi....

We've got one. It's currently hooked up to the TV running XBMC to make it into a smart TV 
You don't need a Rasberry Pi to learn to program though. There's loads if good stuff at Learn to code | Codecademy

So if you had a touch screen, could you control nav lights, trim tabs to different settings, stereo, remote distress calls or even operate a electric winch from your smart phone? And the list goes on...

There's even a Siri interface for it, so you could simply tell it to turn on your lights, etc.!

Ive been fancying one as I learned basic code back in the day , I do all my own web sites etc, blah ... and still into tech .... I fancy updating my grey matter, but not sure what I could do with it ?

I'm around next week, then back in Frankfurt till Christmas. After that, no idea, other than wanting better access to the UK coast on weekends!
If you can get a Pi over the weekend, I can help you get it up and running. You'll need a USB power supply, a USB keyboard and mouse, an SD card, an HDMI cable and a monitor. If you're missing any of these, let me know - I may have some spares lying around.

Dude they are in Maplins, the young lad in there raved about them. Said they would do anything. But I wasn't sold on the idea.
The kids do ICT (information communication and technology) at school and at their young age they are already learning to program their own games 
So I better get with the kids

We could probably program it to respond to feeds from certain members with something like "I completely disagree!", or other, random outrage quotes!
