as some folks are always under the impression that landies are so wonderful

does anyone know how you change the rear three spark plugs on a freelander

Get a bunch of Welsh Ribnetters, One to hold the spanner and the rest to turn the Freelander? Perhaps

Are you serious???

Even IF it were the case it isn't just the Freelander that is a bitch to work on - most new cars are going this way. Some cars now need the headlight to be removed just to change a bulb.

New Renaults need a laptop connected just to change the brake pads. The calipers retract automatically and you just slide the pads in - great until they seize!!!

try a bit of googling and you will see if it is true or not

anyway just off to south wales to visit an old friend and try out my ecu cleaning job

Hmm...like my Disco II, not only do you have to remove the whole headlight assembly, but also remove the front grill!! How rubbish is that?

I still love my Landie though!! It's not logical, or sensible, but hey...

D...

problem is back again, i have cleaned out the red connector plug to the ecu, i go for a short drive and then the problem is back again, when i check the plug there is a little oil on a couple of the connectors. but i fail to see that this would cause rough running as i would have thought 2 connectors would need to short to cause that. each time i clean it the probelm goes away but then after a little time it is back. wondering if there is another issue or problem.

only a british car could have oil traveling down the electric cables......i am speechless

Not quite - happens on Mercs as well. Diesels just shouldn't have electronics!!!

Apparently the permanent cure is a new loom!!!

Does the 'unused' problem wire actually go into the ECU? Can you not get it out of the loom further up and terminate it so that the oil goes somewhere else? Or does it come down the other wires as well?

Also, where is the oil coming from (not that that will help much on a landie...)

i have noticed oil coming out of the loom connection to the airbox and oil in a couple of other unexpected areas so am going to take a look at the loom where it comes out of the head in the front lh corner of the rocker box area. i suspect the only real cure is a modified replacement engine loom.

going to see if lr will replace it for free! if you dont ask you dont get!

there is a possible fix short term/long term which is to re silicone up the offending wire connection hole, i have done this today

for any landy folks who face this problem here is the problem

remove the rocker cover, remove the electrics connections from the injectors, the plug has a pin missing, also the loom connector has a hole, oil can just pass straight down this hole!

sikoflex up the holes as shown and clean up all the other connectors

this might buy me a few days but still going for a new loom i think if i can

Td5 performance

Td5,s can go quick, block off the egr valve, fit a straight thro' centre box replacement pipe, k&n panel filter and Van Aaken chip and watch it fly. Dealer serviced and NO troubles, no oil leaks nothing, best car I have ever had, tows my RIB like it was not there 29 mpg while towing after mods, out accelerates my sons 1.4 escort easily. Far better than recycled u boats or tokyo tin !!

Rubbish

Why do you guys do it to yourselves, I am not rubbing salt into the wounds,
but this is pure bad quality, bad workmanship, vehicles 6 months old should not have issues like this, How do they keep those old Landys going on Heartbeat on tv.
I hope you get this sorted, right when you depend on a vehicle it behaves like this

Cods I have to give you ten out of ten for loyalty, loyalty to a brand like Landy , you always defend them even when the faults are so embarrassing.
What must have went on in the Landy design office, Id say the cleaners coming in an out even had a hand in the design

Gavin, there are good and bad ones wherever you go, mine has been faultless, yet some one I know who has a HA HA Honda has been plagued with faults, back Britain, what do you run, some foreign tin and plastic??

The Honda's are very good cars with extremely sweet engines and ulitmate relaibility. The Jap 4x4s are undoubtably much more reliable that Landrovers and some of Landrovers quality is truley appalling. But people buy Landrovers because they have character, and are the 4x4. If someone sees a large 4x4 and doesn't know what make it is, its steriotypically referred to a 'Land Rover'. Buy a Landrover its inevitably going to go wrong, but rather that than be seen driving a eurobox. I drive a Volkswagen by the way 16yrs old and never gone wrong

Beats me why anyone would want a pre-3 Disco and from what I read in 'Which' last night the 3 is giving plenty of 'teething' probs. I've driven a few 2's and just don't think that they cut the mustard. I also drive a LWB 3.2 DID Shogun on a regular basis which I consider very mediocre also. The engine power and refinement are poor, the handling and brakes also don't fill one with confidence.

Land Rovers

Well guys, this is my second Disco, the first being 200 Tdi which I sold with 100,000 on the clock, all trouble free with nothing more than regular servicing, ok it clonked the trim squeaked, but it always stopped and started reliably. The Disco 2 is a vast improvment and with the mods mentioned earlier (van aaken chip,k&N panel filter,,egr valve closed and centre box removal and replaced with straight thro section) it is stunning. The sound is like nothing else ( pleasantly louder) and performance excellent. Fuel is about 25-32 mpg, cornering with A.C.E is done with no body roll. I have had nothing but 100% reliability so what can I say. my father had a Daihatsu...awful,my friend had the awfull non starting Honda and a work colleague had a fall apart shogun. I'm happy and do not want to change to any thing else. They all purchased Disco's now and are also happy !!!
