this is the government ploy to get the the quarter sale figures up, by forcing people to buy more fuel in this month instead of April!

Interestingly enough the news has highlighted this anomoly. According to a number of sources say that your not allowed to store Jerry Can's >10L ... how many of us are technically "Illegal" ...

I think this came up before and boat tanks fall under a differant rule ( like having your car in the garage with a full tank is also legal )....

The genius politicians in a bid to avoid panic buying 'if' the tanker delivery drivers go on strike suggested ' top up when you can' and 'fill up a can in the garage'- hence most of Englands petrol stations are now sold out / have 2 hour waits to fill up ....just brilliant work - nothing would actually be running short if it wasn't for the most ill thought out bit of advice. We laugh but during the strikes of 2000, i remember working for a well known cross channel ferry operator where, thanks to the "weekend break" deals they were offering to the Channel Islands, people were paying the 35quid to get across and filling up not only their vehicles but just about any container they could lay their hands on.

Some numpty in a Escort estate filled up a couple of those cylinrical water containers used for caravanning (Aquaroll's?) .
Anyway whilst rummageing around in the boot before making his way up to the cabin he knocked open the little plastic drain tap on the bottom and promptly filled up the inside of his car with 40 ltrs of unleaded

I hate to think of what some of those people, obviously despreate to remove themselves from the gene pool, have used to "store" fuel this time.

Anyway, loads of fuel here in France and i'm still only paying about 1.30gpb per ltr of diesel.....and no roat tax.......MOT's every two years etc..etc.. Vive L'Europe

I use a tank a week filled up on tues as normal I won't be joining any queues on principal just hope they all come to there senses before next tues

A tank and a can are two entirely different beasts. I also seem to recall that you should not carry more than a 5l can in any vehicle.

Hmmm I once persuaded an aged Merc 8 to take me back to shore somewhat lethargically and with the best blue smoke screen ever when the rescue coordinator man gave me a spare tank of diesel instead of premix. (I now check everything anyone gives me to run a rescue boat on!)

Boat is topped up. I wonder if I can turn that experience round & persuade my diesel car to run on premix?

+1 Went to Sainsbogs this morning, waited about 45 secs in the queue and filled up. I'll go again when the car's empty. If there's fuel I'll put some in, if there isn't, I won't.

Life won't end without it.

What an unfortunate coincidence that a strike is threatened (?) to coincide with the first holiday of the year and the weather's nice. Where's that emocion for to$$ers gone?

That's what we need a 2 fingered emocion been in Manchester all day not a single que come back to home there's either a long que or there shut.

Just filled up at Sainsbury's, had to wait about 2min before getting to the pump. 3 chaps were on 'forecourt duty' directing people - so very busy, but moving along nicely.

Went to pay, and overheard the cashiers saying that they'd had a tanker in at 12nn, and they were already running very low.

Filled up twice today at Texaco. £250 in Diesel. Waited no time at all. 1 min up the road people were queuing for 15mins + to get it from Sainsbury, where it was 1.3p per litre cheaper. So much so that the police had to attend to direct the traffic!

I thought it better to pay the extra this time,

That made me chuckle, I once filled up a 2CV with diesel and it ran just fine, though it did take about 24 hours for Bournemouth to reappear from the smog .....

Can't say we've seen a difference yet but if the strike goes ahead I can't see how it wont be very bad for us down here at Easter.

Just went to fill up car as NORMAL and the 2 local garages had no diesel.
Oh well, will try again tomorrow.
Whilst in one the guy's running the forecourt were saying that the tanker drivers were working extra shifts on overtime, to keep up with demand.
Therefore, IF and only If they go on strike, they will not loose out financially. Classic, only in the UK
