Pentland Firth

On Thursday, I was lucky to fly over the Firth of Forth, Wick, Pentland Firth, Orkneys and Shetland in good visibility.

If anyone's interested (Keith Hart?) I've got more like this...

OK jw, here goes!

I may need correcting with some of the descriptions, so please shout if I've got any locations wrong. Brian, I'll email the full-res versions to you if you like.

The first is, I think, the river Forth, actually taken about three weeks ago from a 737. The rest are taken from a Saab 340 the biggest in the Loganair fleet!

I'm a little less certain about identifying the Orkney Islands further north, but I think these are Stronsay, Sanday, Eday and north Ronaldsay.

Flying out on Friday morning was a bit rougher...

Here's the view of Sumburgh Head - the plane has to bank steeply to the right immediately after take-off to avoid the hillside!

Hi

Great photos. It looks different from up there as opposed to down on the wet in a 3.4m SIB!

The photos in #6 are looking down on South Ronaldsay, Widewall Bay between St Margarets Hope and Herston.

Also you are correct in identifying the islands in #7.
