Pembroke - help requested to recover basking shark jettisoned tag

A friend of mine has asked me to post : full details on www.baskingshark.ie Green Marine’s tag has been washed close to the Pembrokshire coast just south of st davids in Wales. We are calling all shark biologists to get in contact with any persons, groups or organisations who operate in the area and might have use of a boat and or kayak to recover the tag. Even persons walking the shore may recover the tag which is yellow in colour and 6 inches long by two inches wide.

Last known position on 22nd October was 51.853N 005.231W

There is a 100 pound reward for the recovery of the tag which holds invaluable information on the movements of the shark it was attached to for the past number of months.

For details Contact Emmett Johnston on 00 353 87 1857980

This is a genuine appeal from the Scientific Community for real world assistance. The request comes from someone* doing cutting edge shark research and every bit of recovered data helps paint the big picture of where these magnificent creatures go.

*The fact that he is a Redbay owner has in no way influenced my opinion

I would like to help but but need more infomation on location. I'm used to working with degrees, minutes, and seconds, trouble is you don't get 853 minutes in a degree only 60=nm. so i assumed the missing decimals where between 8 and 53 so 51-08.53, and then long being 005-02-31 in which case puts me 14nm West of S Lundy, Or if the long is 005-23.01 that would be approx 28nm W of S Lundy.
I then thought maybe this was grid reference in which case puts me 55km South of Amsterdam.
Is there some other chart reference they use or has someone forgot to put a decimal in.

Conversion

I have taken the lat and long to be a decimal of a degree, but stand to be corrected.

Ie. 51.853 is 51 degrees and 0.853 of a degree. Simply convert back. I get a position near black scar, Solva.

I stand to be corrected though.

You can use Latitude and Longitude of a Point to input a Lat/Long and get a Map Location.

This gave me 2km offshore between St David's and Solva.

During my search I found this usfull link for onscreen chart reference, which saves pulling the charts dividers and parra rule out, for quick reference anyway.

Sailing Charts. Passage Planning Charts.

Another thing I would like to know is how often data is updated with sat pos, is the tag still transmitting data, or has the power pack simply died, or become detatched. and does the device float.
