Paypal!!! Is this a Scam?

Due to recent fraudulent transactions, we have issued the following security requirements.

It has come to our attion that 98% of all fraudulent transactions are caused by members using stolen credit cards to purchase or sell non existant items. Thus we require our members to add a Debit/Check card to their billing records as part of our continuing commitment to protect your account and to reduce the instance of fraud on our website. Your Debit/Check card will only be used to identify you. If you could please take 5-10 minutes out of your online experience and renew your records you will not run into any future problems with the PayPal® service. However, failure to confirm your records will result in your account suspension.

We are requesting this information to verify and protect your identity. Federal regulations require all financial institutions to obtain, verify, and record identification from all persons opening new accounts or obtaining ongoing payment services. This is in order to prevent the use of the U.S. banking system in terrorist and other illegal activity. For these reasons, PayPal® will utilize services provided by various credit reporting agencies to verify the information you submit to us.

Once you have updated your account records your pending PayPal® account transactions will not be interrupted and will continue as normal.

Its a Scam

Scam. The clue is in the begining "Dear valued PayPal® member", I have had a few sent to other email addresses not registered with paypal If your not sure forward it to them.

As a rule, never click through from an unsolicited email from eBay or PayPal. If it's some special listing deal or whatever, you can get to them through the usual website.

Another tip - make sure you have different passwords (and possibly email addresses) for your eBay and PayPal accounts. Makes it that bit more difficult for some to hijack your details. I'm sure an awful lot of people have the same password for eBay and PayPal though.

And some of the scams look so good it can be hard to tell.

It's a scam I get them all the time . from banks , ebay , Paypal ignore them

Most secure sites also have an "s" in the url..

The link in the email doesn't..

If you have a few idle minutes, could always fill it out with a made up name and password.. After copying the url into your browser, and not clicking the email link tho..

What's wrong if I click on the Link then, I've already done this and it took me to a "log on" page where I was asked to write my e-mail and password. Needless to say I didn't.

It confirms your email exists Andy.. Most spammers send out random emails, and await to see if anyone replies.. If so, this email can be added to a list to be sold as confirmed addresses..

With this email nothing by the looks of it.

However, lots of spam emails embed your email address in the link, so when you click and visit the website you are confirming your email address is valid and you end up receiving more crap.

...then of course there are the dodgy sites which try to infect your computer with viruses

Best not to click on any link in an email your not sure about.
