Yes, especially when the wiki link he used states:

Scotsnomad, welcome to RIBnet. Your previous employment will give you insights that I'm sure we will be glad to learn from. However, arriving fresh and laying down the law is going to upset people. I don't see anything definitive in your links (I have some equally wishy-washy links that say Medico is "gone") and I'd prefer this debate didn't sink into Does-doesn't territory.

You will need to go back to 1998 Wilk when it was officially stopped. The phrase was only ever used in UK waters anyway. This change was more to do with the GPO who used to handle the phone links - they gave way to the new technology of call handling. The RYA and other bodies only followed this up after 2001.

I'd like to be clear that I am simply attempting to bring peace and closure to this thread 
So far, word is back from one SRC course provider. The first important point made was that the structure and support provided by PPMedico is still available. The second point was that the use of PPM is not currently taught under the CEPT SRC Syllabus: http://www.ecodocdb.dk/Docs/doc98/of...d/REC3104E.DOC
Medical issues are treated under Urgency Page 7 Section D1.2
The UK is a CEPT signatory.
Most importantly - if you call a PAN PAN MEDICO in UK waters, someone will help you.

Pan pan medico was stopped, as stated when DSC become the norm.
See page 8 on the attached booklet for correct info on requesting radio medical advice in the UK.

Ultimately though it doesn't matter either way. Pan Pan Medico may be deprecated, but it will still work. Old people will probably continue to remember it and may even use it from time to time, but youngsters just won't be taught it.
Not really worth shouting the odds about really.

I thought that it fizzled out in general use for short range vhf when the GPO coast radio stations folded up as it was those that patched you via land line to the dedicated medical doctor or Hospital.

Absolutely correct - you may go straight to the top of the class and sharpen all the pencils!! (a big honour when I was at primary skool!)
