I have recently had problems with my various POP3 accounts and my Orange account in outlook. I was tearing my hair out all one evening.

As Richard has mentioned I had to reset my SMTP server to orangehome.co.uk following an error message from outlook.

Initially this worked OK with my normal 'Orange' email address(actually an old freeserve account), but I could not get my POP3 accounts to work. ie my nasher@simonnash.co.uk POP3 account.

I called the Orange help line and explained the situation.
The guy on the other end of the line was very helpful, and ran through the process with me. We did exactly what I'd already tried, and it didn't work.
He left me on hold whilst he asked somebody else. When he came back we started again and it worked following something he did.
I was so happy it worked I didn't ask what he'd done, and just presumed he'd activated a priviledge or something on my account.

I don't use outlook and my Orange is fine, I never seem to have any problems although my Dads sometimes shuts itself down on its own.
We both have exactly the same laptops software etc.

My outlook does everything I ask of it, the only issues I've had have always been caused by the ISP.

It copes with a generic email account that goes back to freeserve days, and various POP3 accounts from domains I have registered.

I wasn't overjoyed about the way Orange changed server names recently without any notice, but was impressed at the amount of help offered over the phone to sort out my Outlook/POP3 problems that had arisen when they changed them. This was all on the freephone number by the way.

Yep - that's expected (the second bit). It's a built in security feature to stop "relaying" where you can use an ISP to spam everyone else. ISPs don't like this as they get blamed for spam attacks. Understandable. Your stormforce hosting ISP seems quite friendly - they are listening on ports 25 and 587. They won't let me relay mail to you though as I'm connecting form a known dynamic ISP assigned IP range which is forbidden. Orange is less friendly - they are listening on port 25 only.

I think you need to do exactly what Nasher's done and hope you get the same friendly assistance!

Rich / Nash

As unsucssesful as this approach has been many times previously, I tried calling again this morning and we are now in business. A setting on the actual ICON softwear needed changing. All the time spent changing settings on outlook I was barking up the wrong tree.

Thanks for all your help and also thanks to Rick from Cosgrove who phoned with another solution.
