Bit of an update ,
Just been down to had a look to see whats happening they have dammed up & drained a 100 yard section of the canal ,
Put 2 tempory footbridges across onto the bank opposite to divert the towpath onto the field opposite ,
Speaking to one of the workers they are hoping to dig out the remaining towpath all around the crane then they are hoping using 3 winches to upright the crane back onto its wheels and either tow it out or see if it will start ,
One of the earlier options was to connect up the crane arm hydraulic hoses to a pump and use its jib or arm to push itself back upright .
Only saying to me wife this morning they could make a Tv soap drama about when I got back some one had parked this outside me house :/

Wonder whether they could have floated down stream on airjacks to a firmer embankment and used another crane to recover it?

I realise they've got to get it out, but that's a hell of a lot of work to go to salvage it.

If you look at what they cost to buy new, it's a drop in the ocean if it can be taken out and repaired. It's probably only been in service a year or so on a 59 plate as it take a while to build them.

I suspect it'll be a big airbag job or they'll run the risk of bending the chassis.

Update ! Today ,

Tow path closed off to public for 24 hours , security fencing everywhere ,
security guards everywhere ,
Exclusion zones everywhere ,

with the amount of security you would have thought they were recovering a lost nuclear missile from the bottom of the Pacific Ocean .
Anyhow my lads mate took these pics on their way from school .
The long black pipe running on the grass bank is to help supply water further downstream from the dammed up section as the Leeds canal section about 7 miles down stream before it runs into the river & docks was running very low .
