I`ll have it if it`s going begging? I collect old diving gear, maybe a donation to a favourite charity?

I'm amazed at how much interest this old mask has generated, I've had quite a few PMs and several Emails.

To compliment the excellent information posted on here by Lizardland an email has confirmed the following.

"The mask you have is quite important. It is the remains of a piece of
equipment manufactured by Siebe Gorman & Co Ltd and used by RN frogmen
during WW2. The rubber suits tended to perish and disappear very quickly."

Apologies Razorbill, but it has been offered a home in the new Diving Museum being set up in Gosport by the Historical Diving Society(Opens April 30th). Being reasonably local to me I'd like to donate it to them.

Thanks for all the interest.

Nasher.

Now now boys.

I'm afraid I don't know anything about it's history, except that it's always been in the loft in the house I grew up in, and my mother doesn't even remember it arriving at the house.
(No wonder Mrs Nasher says I'm just like my Father)

As we lost my Father 14 years ago we're not likely to ever discover where it came from, but diving and boats were always part of family life in our house, so I'd imagine he saw it somewhere and picked it up out of interest, probably in a junk shop or similar.

I'm pleased it will go somewhere that lots of people will see it.

Delighted it`s gone there, I`m an HDS member anyway and to coin a phrase, you don`t see very many of those nowadays!

As the museum opened yesterday myself and the smaller Nashers dropped the mask down there this afternoon.

It's not a very large exhibition, but worth a look around in my opinion.

There doesn't appear to be a web site yet, plus the phone number and postcode published on some sites is actually the home of the guy who runs it, so they must have a few people sat outside their house shouting at their satnavs.

It's actually located in 'Battery No2', Stokes bay road, which is the road along the seafront. It's right up the Western end next to the car park and cafe.
