Mystery Place!

No mystery for some here. Came across this unusual picture a few times in the RIBnet gallery's, but cannot figure out where it is.

Somewhere between Kerrera and Scarba?
Must be a bit of a story about the place?,someone put a fare amount of work into it a long time ago for some reason?.
Lot of this type of thing down in the Med, but rare this far north...........

If I am not mistaken its the hermit's cave on Insh just of Seil. Mr W you zoomed passed it last year racing Sula

Ach, I was distracted - donegaldan was kickin' me shin going "slow down slow down, you've got passengers!"

And I wasn't racing Sula, I was just under Strict Orders from HQ to Make our Presence Felt in the North.

I'll have to book David to skipper on the sat might even rope Dick in to take a 'watch' mind you he's handy with the drams too

Aye, IIRC he was no shy of the counter. It's an important skill and often overlooked. Every crew needs a man who can hold his own at the Bar. Too often a crew can fade under the strain of repeated splashes of beer and whisky. Rounds can be missed under these conditions and the next thing you know, you're loosing the argument with some posers in a XXX-XXXXX. No Fear!

Are you sure your not getting mixed up with the 'Big' fella as I recall he was with his 'side-kick DD' the ones who were treading the light-fantastic till dawn!!

Yes,sounds very like Insh. According to the good Mr Haswell-Smith's book page 78 "It is reputed to be owned by a Londoner who occasionally occupies the cave."

It is the cave at the north end of Insch north of Easdale. It was owned by a londoner who worked in the financal sector who bought that part (or all, can't remember) of the island years ago.
He used to live in the cave during the summer and never wore any clothes at all, moving back onto the mainland in the winter. He also used to chuck rocks at anybody that came too close to the island.
He was taken off some years ago due to ill health, by the lifeboat, if I remember right, and AFAIK hasn't been back for a number of years.

Must have past that several times and never noticed it.
Now if i had been in my old sail boat, ambling along on a steady broad reach, with only the gentle lapping of the waves under the bowsprit and the sound of the wind lightly on the luff. I would have seen that.
Instead i tear-arsed past it in me rib with the whine of the turbo in me ears.
