Man overboard!!

Leaving Poole harbour today I hit a set of pretty big waves and managed to end up going for a swim
I always wear my kill cord so it cut the engine straight away but I was more worried about being in the water in a shipping lane!

Straight away a sailing yacht and a Sunseeker came over too check up on us, as well as a parker rib which I think was a tour boat that nearly ran me over!

Swimming with a helmet, gloves, boots & lifejacket isn't easy but managed to get back to the boat fine and was off again pretty quickly.

Was reassuring when I knew how many people were about to help & how quickly they got there. Always good to know everyone looks out for each other out there.

& as a bonus I got it all on Gopro!!

About as good an illustration as to how quick shi@t can go down out there and why that little red cable is so important. Cracking vid chief, good work.

Glad your ok. Really shows well the importance of the right gear and correct use of it. Excellent Video.

Quite possibly worth sending it to the RYA,BBC etc as an illustration of how it should be, maybe even be used in RNLI advertising etc as I imagine there's not too many better examples out there.

I see what you mean about that Parker, anybody you know ? Looked close from the vid but maybe not so in real terms.

Is there any mileage in your PAX wearing a spare kill cord, incase he does need to use it ?

Thanks! I remember seeing the sailing yacht waving them down & telling them to stop & they other boats must've seen me in the water holding my helmet up.

I've never seen the Parker before but I think it's a charter boat along with the sunseeker.

Thats quality footage that, I'm glad you added the slow down bit, seeing as you disappeared so quick in real time. Once realising all was ok, I couldn't decide what's more funny you bouncing over, or your mates reaction

Parker does look a little close as it passes (quite fast) nice of the sunseeker and yacht to wait to make sure you were all ok.

PAX = Passenger. I think what B&O is suggesting is consider having the spare kill cord already attached to your crew so he can almost instantly restart and come to save you a swim rather than need to rummage around looking for it.

Did you take your helmet off or did it fall off?

That's makes sense ill start doing that!

I took it off and held it in the air so I was easier to Spot by other boats

It's was great adrenaline rush though! Glad I got it all on go pro! It happened so quick I just remember seeing the waves, cutting the throttle & then opening my eyes in the water

I see why you did that. Is that what the zap cat guys do when racing? (I have seen a race but don't recall). Obviously avoiding being hit is a very wise precaution - but I wonder if you are actually safer keeping it on as if they do hit you it will hurt less? Just a thought.

As for the parker I think he realised you stopped suddenly and came to check all OK - not sure he realised you were having a little swim.

Glad the recovery went OK - have to say the Parker does look rather close.

Would echo the idea of spare kill cord being carried by crew/co-driver when there's only 2 of you. Might save valuable time messing around looking for it when you know it's clipped to your PFA.
