M27 - Speed Cameras

Those of you who are about to start trailing down to the coast should be aware that there are some road works between Portsmouth and Fareham on the M27 to create 4 lanes over the hill. Sadly the latest yellow vulture speed cameras have been fitted and once they have worked out that they need to point them at the road not the verge they will monitor your average speed (limit 50 mph) through the road works until completion in October.

More road works due to start next week on the M27 between junction 3 and 4, again adding more lanes so more yellow vulture cameras

Ah.

But just as Jasper Carrot said many years ago...

The Cones come alive at night, and do the work when nobody is looking!

Ahh of course!!!

Talking of cones one of the best inventions I have ever seen was trialled many years ago - they were basically 3 plastic cups like an annenometer with reflectors on them. They clipped onto the tops of the cones to warn traffic. The wind from passing cars was enough to make them spin like hell and look like a flashing strobe. No batteries - dirt cheap and really effective - why didn't they catch on???

I wanted to nick one when stuck in a jam but was too honest - learnt my lesson there!!!

M27 Cameras

Pete there was an article on southern news last night the fools have placed the East bound Specs camera in a wrong location so it cannot be used for average speed cover on east section only. Guess the mobile vans will appear to grab money

I wouldn't bet on it. Given Hampshire Speed Camera Partnership's record they are just as likely to leave them where they are and try to prosecute.

See Here or a more complicated version-here- shocking when you wade through it.

The same happened on the M4 near Port Talbot in roadworks. The cameras were illegally sited and it only came to light when someone challenged it.

1000s of fixed penalty notices were issued and most decent law abiding authority fearing people paid up and had points on their licences. When the police were asked if they were going to write to the people concerned and let them know they said it was up to the people to contact THEM!!! As a result only about 10 people knew about it and came forward. The Police were quick enough to contact the people in the first place!!!

Oh, all so cynical. After all, as the nice lady from a road charity said on the radio this morning, it's not about money, it's about making sure children's mummies and daddies come home every night

What is noticeable is over here (Brittany), when roadworks appear, loads of men appear too, and the job is done quickly, often working 24 hours . In the UK, the cameras / cones appear, and bugger all happens, usually 3 miles coned off for one bloke drinking tea in a JCB at the end!
