Dramatic moment NATO warship takes out suspected pirate boat off Somali coast | Mail Online

Have a look at how the military use RIBs and also blow piates out of the water, literally

Has anyone sat down and wondered how it all started? The locals fighting back at foreign fishing vessels completely destroying fish stocks and their livelihood - they soon found a much more lucrative way of making money - so in a roundabout way, we started it. Not saying it's right though, before I get lynched.

Hmmm, i have had the extreem displeasure chance of working offshore off the coast of several African nations (mainly West Africa but never Somalia though...thankfully ) and to be honest, with the exception of only a handfull of countries, they're all much the same......corrupt, corrupt and corrupt!!!. This leads to a breakdown in any chance of constructing a civilised society. Somalia is probably one of the worst but pirate activity exists all around the African coast.
I was only talking to a guy two weeks ago who was working on an LPG tanker moored of Nigeria when pirates managed to board during the night. In the fight to repel them he was stabbed 8 times in the stomack and once in the face.....only just survived . Needless to say he now works behind a desk.

I get fed up with adverts from charities asking for money for Africa.....all they do is block the food at the ports, sell it off to the highest bidder (corruption rules) and go and buy AK47's ( and Toyota hilux's...not Land Rover's ) with the proceeds....

We have been asked to give money to Africa for what 30years now?....If the continent is not fixed after all all the money and aid we have poored into the continent by now then i fear we need to look at other means of helping them

Fishing wars are the reason Somalia has turned to piracy?...Im afraid i have to say bollox to that.

Simon

Those people (and I use the term loosely) kidnap people got ransom, and off them if they don't get it. Live by violence, die by violence. Okay in my book.

If I were on a yacht or merchant ship in the area & a gang of people armed with AK47's, machete's & RPG's were on the verge of attacking me & holding me for months/years or killed and the navy of whatever flag turned up & dealt with them by whatever means I'd be happy !!!
These people are pirates & have no right to be given any consideration. The only reason they're out there is to board other people.

Blimey - I'd have thought that they'd at least hit the thing with first 1000 rounds or so that they fired!! They definitely need the practice...
