Local knowledge required - Falmouth

A Polish round the world yachtman Roman Paszke is going to attempt to break Ellen McArther's solo round the world record of 71 days, 14 hours, 18 minutes and 33 seconds. He will be attempting to do this on a brand new Swedish built catamaran called "Bioton". This catamaran is 28 m long, has a 14 m beam, the mast is 33 m high and the sails are 700m2

I have been asked if I would provide my rib for the Polish TV crew who will be filming his departure from the starting line. Roman will be leaving Gdynia about the middle of next week arriving into the English channel probably by the weekend. I will know more closer the time.

I am hoping to meet up with "Bioton" off Littlehampton, possibly take on board his passenger Mirek (Mirek is a very experienced ribster ) who will help with the helm and the TV crew and of course Roman in Falmouth . We are hoping to head for Falmouth via the Solent waters. Of course weather pending. I am hoping for good conditions as I do not want to tow.

Can anybody advise of any accomodation within walking distance from the marina. Also any tips for the route would be very appreciated.

Any of fellow members from Falmouth

Andre

A Polish Round the world Yachtsman, sounds Odd, isnt Poland Landlocked, I bet he is absconding with it. Careful Andre, Aiding and abetting.
And as for the local people, didnt they once hold Lights over the rocks to guide the ships to an untimely fate.......

I thought Falmouth was around the Pirates cove area???????

Apparently your wrong, again!

"when the vessel Postilion was driven ashore on the North Coast in November 1732 the ship was certainly plundered, but not until every crew member aboard had been helped safely ashore"

Wrecking
Stories abound of Cornish wreckers luring shipping onto rocks with false navigational lighting, with the survivors on reaching the shore being set upon and killed.

Such stories are erroneous and not supported by historical records. There has never been a conviction for such a crime. Whilst on the other hand there are many recorded stories of bravery by local people rescuing victims of shipwrecks.

There exists an unpaid Lifeboat Service which has carried out numerous unbelievable feats of courage.

A most up to date lifeboat can be seen moored at Newlyn. The area now benefits from a £1.8 million Severn class lifeboat, the Ivan Ellen.
