I'm not so concerned about reading but the degeneration of long distance vision over time so that you eventually need glasses again albeit weaker ones.

As far as I am aware this is a once only deal and they can't keep going back and repeating the process as necessary?

I discussed that issue briefly with my optician and she seemed to suggest that although my prescription changes be about 0.25 every 2-3 years, that this was stable enough to consider it.

I know someone who has had it done twice about 8-9 yrs apart. Don't know anything about which processes were used each time.

I think they can do it again-apparently some people need 'tweaking' later to get it perfect.

Go and have a consultation-it should be free and it'll give you a better idea.

WEll, got back from the 24hr consulation and I've got a bit of inflammation in one eye so another appointment in 2 days.

Keep following the aftercare instructions & using the drops they give you - meant to help reduce dryness & make sure your tear ducts return to normal function after being fried (or something).

I had it done a few years ago at AccuVision in Solihull, they were great. I was terrified, but it was actually really straightforward & haven't had any problems since. Admittedly I'm a little bit out of date for a test but the last one was fine.

Hope the inflammation isn't anything serious & enjoy your new eyes !

I had this done to both eyes (at one sitting) in 2005, I was -6 in both eyes (i.e. couldn't see my specs on the table).

I'm now better than 20/20 (I can read all the bottom line - "Printed in Manchester", FYI

) and it has totally changed my life.

I can dive, rib, swim and hillwalk with no concerns...

... granted, a Tampax would have been cheaper

Also been 'done'
Two years ago at Optical express; after 30 years of specs and contact lenses. ... and never looked back if you don't mind the pun.
Spend the most you can afford like most things in life - some procedures are more 'bespoke' and less intrusive. Apparently my cornea is thick enough for 4-5 more !
Had both my eyes done on a Monday and driving Tuesday - patience with eye drops etc etc.
As I am ... well over 40 I went for mono vision - right eye for distance and left for reading and perfect - as Wilk says , swimming, diving, ribbing and other fun ways of getting salt or dust in your eyes are no longer the pain they were with contacts.

Have you tried popping the old 'Perscription ashtrays' back on and going for a pee? Could be impressive.

I tried my glasses on yesterday and it was like swimming underwater without goggles.

Been having 'fun' today with tired eyes. Wish I could clean them as the drops stick and dry out.

Bit of an update:-

3 weeks on and the dry, scratchy feeling is going away. Night vision isn't fantastic, but is improving.

I'm still looking for my glasses in the morning

Hi Nos

As with the others, I also had this done in Nov 2007 (the full monty option at Ultralase in Covent Garden) and it was money well spent

. I went through almost identical experiences to you, and it all settled down really well after the 6 weeks they said it would take. Night vision was similar to yours by the sound of it at first, it isn't completely 100% (a few stars round bright lights etc) but it's very minor and doesn't detract from anything.

Having the treatment has really improved my enjoyment of the things I love - climbing, skiing, boating etc - it is just so much easier not having to worry about glasses icing or steaming up!

And yes it does take a while to stop searching for your glasses first thing in the morning doesn't it?! - I still sometimes go to take mine off before I jump in the shower

Apparently I've stopped flailing for the glasses in the morning now when I wake up.

Quick update for those that were following it.

I had the 1 month post-op checkup on Friday. I now have slightly better than 20/15 vision,which is slightly better than I had with glasses on. Dryness is going away slowly and I'm barely using eye drops now.

All is good-and I can use the boat again at the weekend!
