Good grief, Codders I thought you were the font of all knowledge of everything LR?!

From my limited experience..... 1.8 K series petrol, cracking engine in a car, absolutely useless in a Freeloader. I can recall driving a pool car at LR back in 2000/1 which was gutless as hell. The other amusing trait is that the rear window kept lowering down by itself because the microswitch that told the car that the hard-top was present was a bit dicky. In true British engineering style I jammed a folded up business card twixt switch and hardtop to solve the problem. For all I know its still there.......

TD4 good engine. Not driven one with the auto gearbox so cant comment. Any LR dealer who only will offer list price is barking. Find another more hungry from the recommendations already posted.

Good alternatives would be Nissan X trail or Ford Maverick. Rav4 and Honda CR-V a bit girly. Freeloader allegedly the best built LR prior to new Range Rover & LR3. But still a LR with all that entails.......

Out of the fog......

Dare I say I don't exactly consider the Freelander a Land Rover???

Having said that - for what it is- it's not too bad - remember it's nearer to the Honda CRV - RAV4 type market.
