Biggest drug cheat in the history of sport or greatest cyclist ever?

No court case, never failed a drug test.

Just like the last bloke, everyone said he cheated at the time but because he came back from cancer it wasn't PC to criticise - it's all those poor sods who came second I feel sorry for.

I remember Boardman commentating on the Tour where Pantani won the Ventoux stage. The clear implication was that he was juicing and that was long before Armstrong's super human performances. I used to be seriously into road cycling. Believe me, there's no other sport where the gap between amateur and pro is so obvious.

It smells a little fishy. If all these people testified that they knew he did this adn did it with him than why is he the only one being banned besides the doctor. I say it is a crock ! Apparently nobody actually believes that someone could be that good without drugs. I guess the drug tests he passed meant nothing. Personally i think it is a set up.

Don't know if I'd agree with that. Ali was faster as an amateur and cuban boxers are rock as hell and none of them are professional.

I suppose dope testing is like an MOT, it's only really valid at the time of testing, IF he managed to get round the system then that's another issue. He was clean at he time of testing... Job done

They didn't marry, but I reckon that I could just about endure a few months with Ms Crow without chemical assistance. :-)

That's because he turned his hotel bedrooms into blood transfusion centres. He should have been sponsored by McVities and Tetley Tea!

I read one of his books - and he was a ruthless task-master. Those cyclists that wouldn't support him were cast aside. No point being ambitious if you were cycling with Lance.

It's disgusting what they have done. Judge, jury, and executioner in one group of people (USADA) who have no oversight or responsibility to anybody else. They should investigate every rider to the extent they did Lance, 10 years they have been after him. Perhaps they will put this kind of effort into investigating American Pro football, college football, baseball, and everything else. they turn a blind eye to all that and decide they exist only to get 1 person. I'd say it's a bit fishy. It's a bureaucracy run wild.

Professional Sport

Seems to me to be a huge money making machine. I think that they should just let them take whatever drugs they want, whatever protheses take their fancy, go for surgery even. Then make a TV series about it - allow the audience to vote. Maybe they should even have to sing...

On a more serious note - there's a limit to how fast a mile can be run (zero seconds being the ultimate barrier ;-)) and unless we breed a new race or rely on genetic mutations, that limit is being rapidly approached in 1000/1 of a second bites. And yet the rewards for each 1/1000 Sec gained are rapidly increasing - so don't be surprised when they cheat.
