Kids using fireworks as weapons

We've got a big problem here with kids (14-16 yr olds) getting hold of fireworks and using them like weapons. In the last week they've been fired along the road behind my house like RPGs (these are the £5-£6 a time rockets!) at head height, and yesterday they were throwing airbombs the size of coke cans at cars going across a bridge.

I know who they are and where they're getting them from (I suggested to the guy that if there was any damage to anything that he'd be paying in kind if he sold them any more), but the police don't give a damn and won't even come out. What can I do?

Send a message via Skype™ to Limey Linda
Get a shotgun and shoot the little buggers. Where I live the police would consider this act as life threating and therfore you would be in the clear.
Sorry to hear about this problem.

Bloody nightmare. I hate fireworks. Well, to be perfectly honest, I like a good firework display but I don't think they should be sold to Joe Public any more.

I said to a friend the other day, I reckon this firework night period is going to be bedlam.

I can't think of anything to suggest apart from a high powered hose.

What about one of these?

Expensive option but I'd just leave it up all. Might get one thinking of it.

Consider videoing it and then show it to the Police.

I know they seem pretty useless nowadays but a video is something you can back your story up with.

You could also speak to your local MP or councillor. See if they can get the Police to take the matter seriously.

Like most people I'm dreading this years Firework night. Its about time they were banned for general sale.

They don't work. They rely on the teenagers in question not having damaged their hearing considerably with too much loud music. There's one up in the Brunel Centre here and the kids still congregate near it-though annoyingly Sixy can hear it and can't stay in its vicinity.

Already have. Trading standards have been informed via the council.

I agree-it's time they were banned from general sale-or at least banned from general sale in built up areas where the kids do things like this.

So you've paid all your taxes, don't break any Laws and the establishment isn't prepared to help you. I don't think you'll be the only one in this situation !

Doesn't seem fair but thats modern Britain for you.

Being a big kid at heart and a traditionalist I would hate to see the end of bonfire night but I'm sick of kids setting them off in the streets for a month either side of Nov 5 It does not help having a dog that is terrified of the sound of them, 6 stone of quivering jelly sitting on my lap every night as soon as he hears the first bang

Didn't any of you guys mess with fireworks when you where Kids?

I know I did.

You can't blame kids for messing around with this stuff, the blame lies firmly with legislation and shops selling to underage people and the age limit set too low.

Kids being Kids will experiment with anything they can get their hands on.

This isn't experimentation, it's attempted murder.
Last year these little b**tards were responsible for a bloke being dragged out of his car and kicking his teeth out after he asked them to move so he could park it.
They are also responsible for regularly all the smashing car mirrors off round here and keying all the cars-hence the damage to mine.

They come from one (rented) house where the drunken slut of a mother is never there except to pick up her benefits then goes back to shag whichever dealer she's shacked up with this time-they are alone for 5 nights out of 7. There's usually 10-20 of them there as they use it as a meeting place.

We all messed around with them. I hope none of us tried firing them at people and cars.

So your dealing with hardened criminals then. The law doesn't know how to deal with that sort. If they do actually get done they'll probably get a free holiday to Euro Disney to watch massive firework displays.

I have been in this sort of situation with large gangs of kids outside my last house, when they built some shops on some green land opposite. It was horrible and I understand how nerve wracking it can be. I tried confronting them myself but it seldom did any good.
What helped for the time I had to put up with them was that I got friendly with the local hard family. Never got any problem after that.
In the end I was lucky enough to get a job at the other end of the country so I could pick a better place to live.
If the same thing started to happen again I wouldn't hesitate in moving. I think its the only way if you want to keep your sanity and not end up getting in trouble yourself. Trouble is its expensive to move and it means they have won.
