Brian check your IP, if you have an MCSE and then PING the router, or TELNET the server, make sure there is a CNE around and then make sure your GUI is readable, after that buy a PNP printer to plug in to PARALLEL PORT, if not into the USB port, check if your HDD is SCSI -is your modem half or full duplex, check the HANDSHAKING if no connection, check your back-up and if you have a UPS installed check it routinely.
I'm bored!

Seems a few of you are starting to get interested and have managed to get into the place. Now all we need is for you all to come online at the same time!

Thanks to Narked for helping me get set up.

I think the chat room will be a success.

Thing is MSN and Yahoo aren't as good for group chats, they get confusing and messy once there's a few people in there. They're great for one on one talks, but that's all they were really made for.

Between 6 and 8 on a Sunday sounds good as an organised time, but don't forget it's not limited to that time. Any time you want to drop in, chances are there will be someone in there.

Seems that more and more of you are deciding to give it a go, so looks like it could just work out!

it's about real time multi person forum. Basically everyon is viewing the same screen and watching what is being typed and can then reply instantly.
I think

Here goes...

We have decided to set up a chat room for use by readers of this forum. It has been set up, and currently the discussion is on a set time each week when most people are going to be there, which seems to be 6-8pm on a Sunday currently, although it will be used throughout the week.

If you are interested, Keith, you'll need an IRC client (programme to connect to the server so that you can go into the chat room), and we recommend mIRC. Once you've got it installed, run it (bet you couldn't figure that bit out on your own). If a dialog pops up about the software, author etc, close it. Then you'll be left with the main window open, with an options dialog with some rubbish about servers. Fill in the name, email address (those dont have to be truthful) nickname and alternative nickname fields (nicknames need to be all one word, for example "Keith Hart" wouldnt be valid in the nickname bit). Once that's all done, click ok. Then in the small text area at the bottom, type "/server irc.diveservices.co.uk" and once the text stops scrolling, type "/join #RIBnet". Then talk away!

Decided as it's weekend once again to bring this back up top. Didn't have an exactly awe inspiring turnout last week, but a few did actually turn up so there was at least SOME interest. We figured turnout may have been low due to people having to deal with the storms or whatever, but then it could also be that you just don't care

If you want to come along this week, then do so! We're open all week, but main time will be (for now anyway) 6-8pm Sundays. Come along and get chatting!

Better Late than Never :)

I may be a bit late but have you considered Paltalk??

www.paltalk.com

is free and a room can be opened for chat. It also supports video conferencing.

Have a think about it

So far the few that have got onto IRC have seemed to like it.
Also Manos, I noticed that you joined the channel, but I was out on my mountain bike at the time, hence why you got no reply. Just got in now and noticed that you went in, so sorry about that. Maybe you could pop in again later.

John, any chance of getting a web based client up on RIBnet? I'm guessing that the RIBnet website has CGI enabled? If so the best bet would be CGI IRC, and it'd mean that some of the people here who don't get along with computers as well as others could join in too. Maybe even Keith could drop in!
