Right, more detailed guide on getting onto this 'ere chat room.

Firstly, download yourself a copy of mIRC. Once it's downloaded, install it, then run it.

Right, now you'll be looking at a nice shiny installation of mIRC. The quick way out now is to close any of the smaller dialogs that present themselves, and in the main window, click inside the small white rectangular area at the bottom, and type "/server irc.diveservices.co.uk" then hit enter. Once the text stops scrolling, simply type "/join #RIBnet", and there you go!

See anyone that's interested in this trial run of a chat room in there!

Matt

New to me too!

I just got "You're not on a channel"

Also, do I need to allow my firewall to permit mIRC to "act as a server"?

Nope, you shouldn't need to change anything on a firewall. Pepper, you're probably missing out the "/" at the start.

Got there!

Anyway, a quick question about your website...

Is the "dyanmic" a distance (metres?)

Cheers,
Rich.

All done! Maybe should schedule a time for a few of us to log on to see if we can kick it off.

This should be interesting.
I haven't understood a word anyone has said for the last two pages!
In summary, my guess is that some people are going to "talk" to some other people, but nobody is ever going to know if they did or not!

Well I'm in there from about 5pm till 12ish weeknights. If anyone cares to suggest a best time for people to be there, go ahead.

Pepper, yeah dynamic is the distance in metres you can swim whilst holding your breath.

Brian, yup that's the plan, to talk to each other. Last night pep here got onto the server but took him a while to get into the channel, but once he was there he realised we were talking

Didn't you used to run a computer company Brian?

IRC chat sounds like a good idea. I'll download the neccessary tonight when I get home. (After I've installed my broadband connection - yippee!). Good suggestion to have a specific time - howabout sunday evening?

Yes Alan, I did run a computer company.
But thats what I did-run the company.
I employed others to talk gobbledegook to each other! One of them was so good at it, that she actually persuaded me to marry her. (Still don't understand what she is on about most of the time!)
