Jellyfish and the Beaulieu River

Not funny or controvertial this one, sorry.

Does anyone know why there are so many Jellyfish in the Beaulieu River?

I was up there again this weekend and once again there were literally thousands of the little buggers in the water. I have never seen any in the Hamble, Itchen or Medina.

I think it is a due to the fact that the river is comparatively very clean but if you think there are a lot there now you should have seen it earlier in the year So many there was almost no water left Des

They tend to mass for things like breeding, I think its centred around the lunar cycle. Saw a similar thing on the west coast of scotland once. Wondered how the ferry propeller functioned, cavitation due to jelly?

There's been loads in Cardigan Bay this year too - and I saw my first Sun Fish on Sunday morning (well, its fin and back anyway). Apparently they need warm water (in Wales? ) and eat jelly-fish.

D...

P.S. No idea why there are so many in the Beaulieu River tho'...
