Good or Bad?

I had the 2.5td 1997, got the "VM" Engine in.

Nice car but very, very expensive when it goes wrong, normally cracking heads and head gaskets going.

I would stay away

Andy, please don't. My Dad has just scrapped his after a complete engine melt down, (VM engine). Also its tiny, you would never fit in it.

Noooooooooo!!!!!

Borrowed one once, as Pete says they are tiny inside, and unless you put the spare wheel on a bracket outside the boot is small too.

I hated it.

Is the wife still playing up about a Deli?

The Jeep would have no advantage over your Kia, would be slower and cost more to run.

Don't be too quick to condenm it,my '96 rib tug is great,2.5 td 103k on it and it drives lovely.They also fitted that motor to early range rover diesels,as with all cars it's history is paramount,i've seen blown disco's before.
They are cheap and I think good value.You won't get a disco or rr with leather,cruise and fridge for under 3 grand

All about valve, If Dino's Jeep was a Disco ES, would be worth £4-4.5 trade
yet the jeep only has a book valve of £ 2600, £2k buys a few repairs, and the disco is not 100% cost free,
Had a 95 2.5TD ltd se in px the other week £2000 and its your !!

That kinda puts it all in context doesn't it? Hightower, how much wonga are you talking about spending. ('fr instance new shape Cherokee a very different beast from the old boxy XJ). For a few thou' I'd buy a 4.0L petrol job. Yes bloody thirsty but more reliable than diesel and gotta be available much cheaper say 2-4k for a decent reliable one? (Its been a while since I've been in the Uk used car market I know.) Disco of similar price would be fraught with mechanical/electrical breakdown risk.

Alan, I hadn't a specific car lined up. I was just brousing the Auto Trader and was looking at several different 4x4's. It's just that the price of certain 4x4's are cheaper than others and that appeals to me as I've not a terriffic amount to spend but really need something bigger than my Kia as I'm looking to cover a greater milage with my family this year.

I might just keep the Kia and get a larger family car instead.

why a suv 4x4 andy

why not have a look at the 4x4 estate market

skoda
audi

if its miles and comfort estate would be good and 4x4 for that beach or slip
let face it most large 4x4 have road tyre fitted so i can,t see why a estate
4x4 can,t do the job we know you been looking

They have a great website which lists what the 4x4s actually SELL for - note the LandRovers go for OVER book value but bargains can be had on other makes.

Most of the complaints with the Jeep are with the VM diesels - they were crap in RangeRovers as well. The petrol ones are cheap cos they are so thirsty!!!

If you want a 2nd vehicle just for towing get a petrol one - far cheaper than diesels. Get one over 10 yrs old and you get classic insurance as well.

Buy an old Range Rover classic v8 and if you get the right one it will still be worth what you paid for it a few years later - it may even go up!!!

Don't get me started on Delica's please......Had a real nice one lined up, bought it home to show the missus and needless to say I've stopped looking at them now

That Skoda on Ebay, I was looking at that one and another that sold a week ago, but went for £6000.

You should have taken a Series III landrover home first, then the Delica. Might be a cheap black disco TDI 200 going cheap at work.
