If you haven't got an audio system in your boat Marine Audio have solutions just for Ipods with the amp and everything out of sight except the on/off and volume controls - the Ipod is then removable when the boat is unattended - if you can wait that system will be on our new boat at Ribex!

I can't answer for anyone else, but we find it the most popular way of storing and listening to music, this isn't the place to go into the reasons why, but car manufacturers have bought into the Ipod thing as well as bluetooth.

For other users it will also be available for other systems if they make a waterproof case for it and it has a standard jack output!

Codders - I suspect your phone would die if left out on the dash? Maybe they do a case for it and you can still operate it?

I wasn't just on about phones - there are loads of MP3 players on the market - many were out long before the IPOD as well - it's just that many people these days think an IPOD is the ONLY MP3 player!!!

Sorry I wasn't aware of that - I obviously mix in more educated circles!

Hi Mate

I have already got a system fitted and now have the ipod working, although not tested on water yet but with the Verado it should be OK. I look forward to seeing your new system at Ribex, and maybe enjoying a pint or 6?

Something to do with a successful marketing campaign, resulting in > 80% market share (according to some google searches), leading to the brand name being used to describe any similar product.

Its a bit like all personal casette players being called 'walkman' in the 80s, even though walkman was a Sony product.

A couple of others I can think of are Portakabin and Jeep - any more anyone?

Surely the sounds from the iPod will be muffled if placed in a durex? Should keep it safe though.
