Interesting boat

We did a tow job on this 52 foot 6 ton ex naval steam gunship yesterday after its annual refit.. Lovely craft which does work and planned a "steam up" today and goes to about 10 harbours for events each year. Just after I took the photo they locked on a massive gun on the bow support between the two air intakes.

The dive shop owner was looking at these as a liveaboard. Unfortunately, berthing here is priced by the foot, so...

I heard the US Navy is looking for someone to take this off their hands:

It's currently berthed somewhere in the San Francisco Bay Area, I think.

Our local dive community has been trying to get permits to allow, and obtain a vessel for, sinking as an artificial reef. I suggested they look into this (the uniqueness of the vessel would held drive popularity); but I think they passed based on the costs of cleaning and and making it diver friendly.
