Icelandic Eruption

This is what I like about Iceland - they can have a proper volcanic eruption 75 miles from Bogi's house and no-one gets hurt (or excited, it seems )

Nice video here, taken early this morning, from a plane, while other international flights were grounded or turned back.

I wonder did someone go on holidays and forget to turn their Geothermal Heating off?

Hey Willk, I hiked over the top of this glacier when I was 16. We spent a fabulous 16 days up there.
I had one hell of a shock when I watched the news.
Nobody told us it was a dormant volcano.
We did enjoy swimming in the hot thermal springs and then plunging into the glacial stream alongside though.

You were shocked? - I'm supposed to be hiking from Þórsmörk to Landmannalaugar in July, it's just beside it (ish). The big worry now is that the eruption will prod Katla into action - and Katla has the potential to shut the country down and the effects be felt here (ash, lower temperatures etc.). Fingers crossed.

It's cracking (pun intended) country though, I agree - I like that it's a "work in progress".

Hmmmm, maybe you should take the Rib and just go whale watching instead.
Interesting that the so called experts predicted absolutely nothing yet again.
Of course if Katla goes they will declare a national state of emergency and appeal for aid.
So instead of them paying us back we will give them even more of our money.
Fingers crossed for you. I hope it all goes well.

I forgot to say that Landmannalauger was our destination on that trip. We all fell in love with the place. Half way up the mountain there is a cave that I slept in for the two nights we were there. I now know why it felt so warm in there.
If you get the chance then do it. It is quite breathtaking at night.

Unofrtunately it has always been the case that Katla will wake up when eruption has taken place in Eyjafjallajökull, we have been waiting for her to blow i.e. since 1960 so due for half a century, if that happens it will disrupt our whole life, also meaning North Atlantic flights may be seriously disrupted......

Well got callout from 112 at 00.12 last night to be in position but as I am in UK could only watch from distance.

Eyjafjallajökull (matter a fact the eruption is beside the glacier in FIMMVÖRÐUHÁLS) can easily be active for 2 years, but can also last only few days.

For those of you interested, finally today fantastic view to Fimmvörðuháls and what could be seen was over 200 metre high LAVA FALL.....

Was on wrong side of the plane as would rather give others oportunity to see the eruption...... I can be a nice guy occasionally.

Have look at frest videos taken today.

ooooh!

Looking like a real volcano now. We have decided to hold off buying tickets for a couple of weeks, no point going if the area is closed!

Although I note that an enterprising tour company is selling Volcano Tours already. You guys, what are you like!
