I hate Halloween...

...because it is a horrible American concept that I really can't stand. BUT, after a lot of pleading from my daughter I agreed to make a Halloween cake. So, here on RIBnet is the first public unveiling of the second cake I have ever made/decorated.

Everything is just an engineering challenge!

Hallow'een is a Scots word, and the "festival" is a 'Christianisation' of Celtic / Pagan festivals before it.

I should have said but I was just so, well, affronted! American! WTF!? It's maybe just possible to mention that the great festivals of the modern year, Christmas, Easter and Halloween were pinched from the Celts.

Really? What part of Halloween is Christian? My rabbi says I'm to stay away from the whole thing because it's occult. It's really is an Americanised load of bogusity, what with all those wretched kids coming round trick or treating and where I live it's been hijacked by the middle classes which is another reason to despise it.

And that's what it used to be when I was a kid, when - if anything - it was more scary. All the 'trick or treat', sweets, dressing-up and other paraphernalia has come eastwards and changed it. And it didn't last six weeks, overlapping with Easter / Christmas / Bonfire Night / New Year in the shops.

My children have already been invited to Pinata parties. Don't tell me that they are Celt festivals!

It possibly wouldn't be so bad if the kids had some intelligence or presence to actually offer a trick if they don't get a handfull of treat. The last lot that I opened my door to were completely lost when I responded 'trick' to their enquiry.
