How-do Hank. Yup - my first pick is already in and ready for crushing this weekend. It's been a reasonable year for apples and I have a fairly good crop left on the cider varieties. I managed to make a good (for me) cider last year - despite my reservations about the fruit quality. The final volume was enough to keep me in cider all year. I think the time has come to start tweaking the process, see if I can make something worth sharing...

Nice find! Is the combi a runner?

I came home recently to discover one of my houseplants had flowered - apparently the mature fruit is good eating?

Yesterday we pick apples in the rain and filled the back of my pal's new Ford pick up box with all kinds of apples. Some of the apples were so big they had to be cut in half to fit in our machine.
I hope this was our last pressing of the year
We did 2500 L or 500 gallons this year
I'm enjoying some sparkling cider as we speak
cheers
Hank

Me too as it happens - one of us musta started early
I can't quite get my head around 2500L - you must run a local juice bar for the less fortunate!

I've just washed up my kit tonight after the second and last press. I ended up with 270L of juice, with a decent percentage of cider apple juice. Sugar levels are high and I've made a controlled environment enclosure for my fermenters - things are cooling down rapidly in the shed!

The flower is on a Swiss Cheeseplant. It is now developing into a banana sized fruit body - no idea how that will go.

That flower looks very "lily-ish" are you sure it's edible (the fruit)?

Our first pressing tomorrow-
Since last season we cleaned and painted the frame work and pressure washed the wooden parts. Gathered more food quality plastic buckets with lids.
Our valley looks to have a bumper crop of apples - the blueberries are doing great
but forest fires with in a couple 100 kms-
sky is Smokey until the west winds blow and clears it out
cheers
Hank

Many of my trees are finally mature and I'm able to be more selective about the fruit I'm using for cider juicing. This season was warm and the crop is large - I've recovered 1/2 ton of mostly cider specific apples and left well over 100kg of rejects on the ground. The hope is that this selection will lift the final product a notch. Fingers crossed! Pressing in a couple of weeks...

* Dabinett - "vintage" quality variety.
