How to make a quick buck?

Don't worry I am not that stupid thinking you can turn £1 into £100 without risks but....

If you had £300 and had to invest in something be it boat related or not, what would it be?

Let it commence.....

Invest usually suggests some period of time rather than quick buck.

Can't think of anything you could add to your boat that would even be sure to get your money back never mind a significant profit.

I guess buying a tatty dinghy and doing it up and selling on would be possible but there is a shed load of elbow grease on top of the cash. The same may apply to old outboards if you are handy with a spanner.

I did meet someone who claimed to have funded a £2000 bike just through the 'free' introductory offers that the online casino / betting places offer. But I think (i) you need to know what you are doing (ii) you need to have a lot of discipline so you don't loose your own money. The people running this are not stupid and know its much more likely they will profit from this than you will!

Something that has always annoyed me is jerry/fuel cans, be it metal or plastic, don't seem to have a separate breather on the opposite side from the spout, this would stop the splashing/glugging you get whilst pouring them.

The spouts you can get for jerry cans DO have a breather incorporated in them but the air still has to go back up through the fuel.

A simple pull up breather would make the world of difference.

Design and produce one with your free cash, I reckon it could be a winner.

what i meant by investment (i know probably wrong word) was buying something e.g. engine then selling it on.

I may be buying my fiends 4hp 2 stroke 1990's mariner, i have seen them on ebay with a buy it now £350 and he only wants £200 and i reckon i can get him down to £180. GAMBLE?

Yep, its worth 3-500 on Ebay depending on condition, your ability to post it and your own feedback profile.

But you need to be a bit handy, give it a basic service at least just for peace of mind, this will cost you around £25 in bits, but it should also increase your sale price. Building in value will increase your profit.

One tip, if you start making money off your friends, they will not be your friends much longer.

Watch out for those fiends, they can be devilish little buggers, they might even read Ribnet

It's difficult to turn £300 into any more without a disproportionate amount of elbow grease.
However, you can make profits going to auctions, car boot sales or boat jumbles then reselling stuff on Ebay after really knocking people down on prices.
It's hard work, you have to know what you're looking for and don't forget to factor in travel and seller fees.

The "Buy it now" doesn't mean people actually buy it. And your use of the word "investment" is correct. Be it second hand outboards or pension funds.
A chap I know is making a killing selling 2nd hand tyres.
But quick get rich schemes are generally like hens teeth, however if you can get your hands on some rocking horse dung you might be able to turn that around.

I made quite a good business selling reptiles for a while, in fact that is was funded my honwave t40 which I bought for 1700 with a 25hp engine. Around 900 of it came from selling my collection. I have just sold one I my carpet pythons for £200 but it no longer works because I am down my caravan all summer so can't look after them.

I might try and buy an old dinghy and do it up or
Buy a spares or repair engine. That or I just spend the £300 I have on the boat and don't try and make more money from it.

Quick and easy returns generally only happen to the lucky.

Quick returns happen to people who have put time, effort and work into learning how to make a quick return without being overly greedy looking for profit - and even then sometimes they get it wrong.

An investment to me needs time - either in finding the right ' deal', learning what is the right deal and having learnt when to walk away as 'something' isn't quite right.

I think its true if you managing pension funds, investment funds, boat buying and selling or anything ! Anyhow I'm off to pick up a little boaty I have just purchased ...SIB club fun (I just cant talk about it yet).

I think I may have your answer,
For £300 you could always buy a suitable waterproof camera, affix to your boat, choose your time wisely and take snap shots similar to those posted recently, Fly a flag saying Get yer pics er dot com, you charge 10 or 15 quid a pic, Bobs ur uncle. Maybe?

That'll be 25% commission + 20% vat
