Yep, 5.30 this morning and I knew I was in for a fun trip to work.

Regarding tyres it was fun watching a Range Rover squirm about all over the place today on his stupid road tyres whilst my ATs gave me loads of grip.

From the image Mrs Nasher took later in the day you can see how steep our road is in the Top left corner, and judge how good the D3 is with the ATs. And they don't even make a noise on dry roads.

Oh, and No, the bin men didn't turn up

This was Tuesday and it's hardly stopped snowing since so you can guess what it's like now. Remarkably, my Jeep drove out and back in on half worn road tyres and not even low ratio or difflocked. Cool.

2-3' feet here (Alford/Aberdeenshire). Kids have been off school for 7 days which is a joke. Was -19 on Friday. Seriously think that we (as in UK population) have to completely rethink our approach to winter weather. It's winter, it snows, why the sudden hysteria? Folk in Nordic countries are laughing at us.

Quattro-drive on my A4 is the way to go. At times I was ploughing my way to work!

Hmm they must have changed something then because I had an S6 that was utter dog poo when the snow came down .. as is my current X5 I might add

The A4's heavy with the 2.5TDI (V6) engine, and Continental tyres on 16" rims seem to work well.

Your X5 probably has low-profile tyres with 18" rims?

The S6 is a performance road car, in the same guise as the S4, RS4, etc.

What you should have bought - was one of these. Nice cars, but bloody expensive to sort if the air suspension fails.

Nothing here. just clear sky and - 8 Celcius as can be seen on photos from helicopter rescue exercse yesterday

If you look closely on the picture of our lifeboat Stefnir (Parker 900 Baltic) you will see thin ice and on our way to the marina for refueling we had to go through some ice.

Did anyone see the laugh out loud moment on the Beeb where the reporter was stood in front of a Series 1 Landrover uttering the immortal words "even cars designed for this can't get through".....

....as the rear wheels spun merrily and the back end went sideways! Silly sod either hadn't engaged 4WD, or if they had, had forgotten about the freewheeling hubs.

Classic.

Dont see many of them Audi 'Allroad' owners shouting about it to be honest on the roads ? .. air suspension is a misnomer too .. its all about weight distribution and grip

I drive 4x4 for day job in all conditions .. mud .. snow etc

You can put big tyres on lots of stuff and it doesnt always perform neither due to the transmission set up.......... but Ribnet secret coming up

the wifes Mitsubishi Outlander on ordinary road tyres is a very good car for ice/snow .. very clever .. very clever indeed

I have this sneaky feeling that if I stuck some knobly rubber on it .. it wont perform .. because its been designed for the boots its wearing

Dunno what they've developed in the transmission or the centre diff, or the software but its good, for road tyres .. very good
