Nope.
It has been like that since I moved here, always at low tide, also depends on time of year and wind direction.

It is a partly sulpherous gas given off the shrape at low tide, can be smelt in certain conditions (mainly after a hot day) at low tide with very little onshore wind. Yep, it honks but nothing new. lovely when enjoying lunch in the town!

It is not "red tide" (algae blooms) which have affected the UAE recently for example - they stink too for sure but it is a different smell (more rotting seaweed) and the water goes a red/brown colour. thought to be caused by pollution and too many nitrates getting in to the sea.

have seen and smelt both!
