Home CCTV Recommendations.

I'm looking at replacing my cctv cameras they are 9 years old now and they record onto my home p.c. not dvd.

Can anyone in the know or trade recommend a decent system for 4 cameras (colour) for outside use and that can also be monitored by using a smartphone.

I've just been there and done that!

3 Sony cameras, two 1000TVL Bullet Vari-Focal & 1 Vari-Focal 1000TVL Dome.
1 iSmart Qvis Atlantic 4 channel DVR with a 1tb hard drive.

I have it streaming online so can view on an iPhone or Ipad using a free App, or on a laptop using IE.

It took a couple of days to install and about a week to figure out how to view on the net but it was worth it!

Still exploring all the features and settings but so far so good.

If you can connect while using your wifi but not when your using another connection such as 3g then you need to check your ip port numbers.

I installed a Swann system about 2 months ago. I'm VERY pleased with it. 500gb hard drive and up to 4 cameras, (came with 2) and not alot of money at all.
Free download app, so you can view from anywhere.
Recommend you go for the 'pro' cameras and I think they are very good.
Just search swann CCTV in eBay, there are hundred to choose from

My recommendation would be nothing less than a 900tvl system. That is the camera resolution. Anything less just doesn't have enough resolution to be clear enough to make out a persons identity. A 2 terabit DVR will give you plenty of recording time. Nothing less than 1tb.

My system is a Swann setup with 8 cameras. I set mine to only record on motion, which of course can often be bugs. Should an event happen it will most likely be during the day, and I can quickly go back and find the event. It can be viewed on my iPhone, iPad, and my laptop.

You have to pass 4 "No Trespassing" signs to get to our house. No one pays attention to them. I put up two "Smile You Are On Camera" and let me tell you...traffic all but stopped driving up our driveway. I put cameras everywhere, and even had to buy 200ft cables for the cameras that watch over our private driveway. I catch every car coming and going...plus a few turkeys, some deer, foxes, and the racoons.

I fitted a Swann system to my Mothers place after a local scrote tried to doorstep her. Got it from Makro for under £200. 4 external cameras & 500gb HDD. Not had much success with the remote viewing yet, but I suspect that's a router issue.
Can't fault the kit for the money though.

I'd something like

Qvis NVR-4POE for the recorder

Qvis AMB-MB1.3 for the cams

They connect with RJ45 connections and are plug and play

I've got a crimp tool if you want to borrow one

Jim

Swann SWDVK-914254F 9 Channel D1 CCTV Security Kit With 4 Pro-535 Cameras

this is £100 cheaper. I'm no expert, same manufacturer so there must be a reason why, but still 1tb drive, can take 8 cameras, comes with 4 and does night vision?

Thanks for the heads up Crusher the camera fixing seems to be a lot better than the ones I have now which are quite flimsy.

You can get the SwannView app on your Android / iphone Dave.

I wanted to fit mine today but was stopped by the heavy rain but hopefully I should have it done on Saturday and have them up and running.
