Usually the home made ones are better. haven't looked into these ones yet but many of the commercial ones are crap.

About to start making my own - should be fun!!!

Bloody hell just seen the price - £1750 + vat - it will cost me about £600 for one that does 200 litres per batch.

i have heard a few stories recently of modern diesels going bang after they have run on it for a while .

I don't know anything about the stuff TBH I have just been told a few tales of woe from friends in the motor trade. I wondered if it was the old problem of vegetable and mineral oil not mixing hence the engine oil becomes contaminated also mixing regular diesel with Bio.
I haven't looked into it but you know how roumours go round the trade.

My 2.0l TDCi runs like a bag of nails on Tesco Diesel with its 5% bio - not sure i'd like to try full bio

Codders, what is your plan to do this? when are you going to start and finish the project? Can you provide a report on the results? I am sure everyone will be interested.

I will start it just over Christmas - I looked into it a lot before - I was thinking of starting to produce the stuff commercially but the hardest part is getting sufficient waste oil. The prices are going through the roof. It is NOT a good thing for the environment either. It is a different story to produce just enough for myself - and there is no red tape either now for up to 2,500 litres a year!!!

there was a bloke on here a while ago who said he made it - seemed to know what he was on about so wouldn't mind talking to him if I can remember who it was.

I didn't know tesco fuel was 5%bio. I agree my T5 van runs crap on it too . I usually used to use supermarket fuel , and a few mates had noticed that their diesels didn't run so well on it so i have switched to shell or BP and the differecence is unbelievable , faster smoother and more mpg . The v power shell is better again .
Worst bit is i filled up this week and diesel has gone up 7p a litre since the last time I filled up.

Got news for you - soon ALL diesel will be 5% bio - apparently the EU thinks it's good for the envrionment - in practice thousands of sq miles of virgin rainforest are being cleared - grrrrr!!!

Yes i saw something about that on the tv the other night. I didn't see it all , but why was the forest was being cleared for Bio diesel.

They were also looking at the methane levels in the siberian permafrost , seems to me they need to find a way to use the methane as fuel .

Bio fuels will not work because you need vast quantites of land - places like Indonesia are the biggest producers of the oils needed and they are ripping down trees everywhere.

Also in south america the drive to produce ethanol for the USA is pushing up the prices of basic foods and causing poor people to starve - just so some greens can feel go about themselves!!!

Hydrogen fuel cells are great but there is an even better option - one that will still allow us to use out infernal combustion engines. That is hydrogen gas. The biggest drawback is the cost of producing the hydrogen but they could make it at night instead of dumping electricity as they have to at the moment.

Of course it's because of all these things that our government is so desperate to bring in road pricing - it will be hard to collect all that lovely TAX on alternative fuels...........

Maybe Clarkson has just explained a problem with Boi diesel . Thier BMW 24 hr endurance car died and among other problems they said the fuel pump seals had been destroyed by too much methanol in the fuel , the result being fuel in the sump.
Could explain the reason for the bottom end going on the 2 failures I heard of recently

Maybe Bio will be like unleaded when it first happened , the engines will run ok on it but need a few mods like different seals , or valve seats etc with unleaded .

There isn't supposed to be any methanol in the fuel.......

Obviously it was a poor quality fuel.
